Aren't those the ugly boats in those movies?
This is the Wooden boat forum. Cheap plastic...
If you all keep buying plastic trim, then one day you will go to your big box store and
there will be NO MORE WOOD.
They only stock what gets bought.
The ROT in the trim is not because it is wood!
The rot is because of the nails holding on the trim.
Either use wood for the trim and glue it on with NO nails to start the rot process,OR...
Just...
Good work on the cabnents.
Make sure you put latches on all of those opening doors and drawers.
A must have.
Just finished painting the hull for the third time.
I was trying to get the hull color right.
I had to finally get the paint mixed to my specs in latex.
But at least it looks better than what was...
Why should we be kind when you have a dream house and a perfect boat?
Lets see now..... LOL...lol
Stainless brackets both sides.
A nut or bushing is welded to the stainless angles to make a pivot.
It is good to make safety points.
I understand that you do not think you could drill a 1/4 inch hole in the edge of a 3/4 x 3-1/2 board and get it straight.
I thought the same thing UNTIL I tried it.
My drill press is an...
I did not say a boat does NOT need ventilation!
I said THIS small boat does not need ventilators. Please read more carefully.
This small boat has a cabin that is not enclosed.
But if it does get...
That is NOT true.
I just stood the boards on the drill press table and drilled them .
It was not as hard as I thought.
Drill most of one side, then turn it over and drill from the opposite side.
I did not...
For the skeg.
Since you epoxied the skeg to the keel I do not think you need any bolts at all.
Maybe you could put a couple 1/4 lag bolts in it from the inside. 4 inches long???
When you say...
I know a woman that went there to do charity work.
The first day she arrived her sleeping bag, camera and everything else was stolen at the bus station.
Fortunately she had good friends back home...
Thanks P.L.Lenihan!
The ship is 12 stories high. About six of those are below the water.
The transverse bulkheads are 12 inch thick steel.
Floating iceberg? Or steel brick.
I won't do Facebook.
Can you just post one pic on this forum?
Every boat building job has some kind of snag.
I cannot think of ANY boat that was built that something did not happen.
Just be thankful it was not an injury of some sort.
I know of three boats...
Brass would be almost as bad.
Brass in made with copper and tin.
That would be a 30 point difference on the galvanic scale.
You want a steel knife. At least if you drop it overboard at the...
Copper is a very good conductor of electricity. Don't wear it!!! LOL
Also copper and steel in a marine environment is very bad as far as corrossion potential.
OF you really like that knife...
I still want to know who owns that boat. LOL
BTW the potatoes will be warmer under the soil by 15ºF.
Ask any gopher.
The L jetronic Bosch fuel injection was really LHM ( Limp home mode) Not kidding.
Prior to that it was K-Jetronic.
Thanks!
Too bad the prop is missing.
A very bad idea.
Just think of the potential to hurt your back.
Before you try this nutty idea, Move the 1/2 ton of lead from one place to another. ALL OF IT.
See what i mean??
BTW I bet...
Boot strip completed.
On the real ship this boot stripe would be about 4 feet high!

Thanks Ed.
Thanks for that creative idea Mad Scientist!
Yes that would be an option that would create interest.
I will have to research that. I suppose it was done on the helicopter landing pad.
Tape off!
Boot stripe next.

Painting of the hull going on.
The red bottom was first, and now the grey top sides. Next is the black boot stripe.

You may not have to prime over the epoxy but it needs to be scuffed up.
There was a test in a boat magazine of 8 different one part polyurethanes and Petit EasyPoxy was the winner.
"Silver Tip" oh brother!!! LOL..lol.lol
I am not an engineer of gasoline fuels.
Your engine will not be damaged.
You did not tell us what kind of engine.
Carbureted or fuel injection?
The ethanol in modern fuels is mostly a problem...
Many businessmen steal ideas and copy things.
That is because it is easy.
Even if you have a patent it can be stolen.
That is the reason that almost all products have "Patent Pending" labels on...
For a trailer boat...PL Premium.
Where is the PL Premium???
You better get a tiller cover on it right away before the metal thieves attack.
I had to rework those outer prop shafts because I had the angle incorrect.

Good luck. I hope you get them if they are what you want.
On search engines like Google the exact words are very important.
For instance I would try:
Plastic ports for small boats, or small boat accessories etc.,.
Very nice job!!!
No fun I am sure, but it will last for years.
Thanks Runner.
"bottom paint" means anti-fouling paint. You do not need that on a trailered boat.
Just check your boat before you leave the marina to make
sure no critters are being transported from lake to...
Thanks Duncan.
I drilled holes to attach the superstructure to the hull.
I am very close to finishing all of the railings on the super structure.
Radar antenna next.

I recommend Easy Poxy white primer, THEN one part off white top coat.
You must lightly sand the epoxy that is on the hull if you want the paint to stick.#600 grit.
You want the top coat to be...
Thank you for posting this.
Where do you get the document?
Do you just print it from this online link?
In the boat world you keep a LOG book. They sell them at West Marine stores.
The log book provides spaces to enter destination, time, number of crew aboard, direction etc., etc.,.
But of course...
Latest photos of the model in progress.

The super structure is not attached to the hull yet.
The US Coast Guard prefers that all wind generators and poles be on the starboard side now so that if crew must be evacuated that the helicopter winch line does not get tangled in those items.
So he...
Where do the float plans go?
Where do they come from?
What is the form number?
