I cane chair seats professionally in my woodshop. I've been dealing with Frank's Cane and Rush Supplies in California for years with excellent results.

for a much more open group of Weekender builders, try-

and go to the main forum. This is the group that got tired of the "stuff" at BYYB and splintered off.
I've been using marks on a stick for years- ever since Meade Gougeon showed me how to do it at an EYA meeting in St Petersburg back in the late 70's. I use it all the time, both with MAS and it's 2-1...
Why can't a guy who builds chairs be a good boatbuilder? ;) [/b]</font>[/QUOTE]LOL- Was wondering if anyone else would catch that. I happened to have JUST reread an article in Woodwork about a...
it's purpose is to seal softer grain so wood will stain evenly. Only that, nothing more.
"I wish it would die so----"
My stupid Craftsman 3 x 21 belt sander that has the exhaust port right where your left hand fingers sit on the handle, thus roasting your hand as you sand. And it also...

Boy I'm glad to see this. I was down to the museum just a few weeks ago and noticed how the old sloop was deteriorating. Pretty sad.
Hope you find someone. I do boats, but nothing on that scale,...
Ya'll talkin about Bois D'Arc here:) What the fellas out in the rural areas call Bowdark. I've seen some really nice lathe turnings using the stuff too. And I've got a hand made self bow done with it.
Thanks PJ. I posted the same question on the Trailer/Sailor board and got this link- in 6 minutes!!! If you are interested, it's an extensive treatise on the subject.

My wife asked "where did that name come from?"
I know what the original jonboats looked like, and I know where they originated, but I found I didn't know how they got the name.
Anyone know?
Well lets see. in 1975 I started construction on a Cross 35 Ketch rigged trimaran using WEST sys over cedar coldmolded hulls, with fir plywood decks. I launched the boat in 1981 and lived aboard til...
I have router bits with pilot bushings (both above the bit and below) that have run literally thousands of feet of cut. I have some bits (from Sears even) that are 20 years or more old and still...

I run three drill motors with keyless chucks in the shop. Two Makita drill/drivers and a Skil 1/2 inch drill.
Only problem I've ever had was the chucks unscrewing if I didn't tighten them enough...

made plywood tanks for my trimaran years ago.
A 12 gallon diesel tank and a 22 gallon water tank. Used 1/2 fir marine ply. Filleted the inside and taped those seams then used 5 coats straight...
Garland - the Princess 22 carries 400 pounds of external lead in the shoal keel.
Would do really well for anywhere on the ICW, but you'd really need to be sure of a weather window to take it to...
Todd- I'd have to agree on the Folbot "Glider". Friend of mine had one. The square cockpit ends are right, and the fore and aft decks look right too.
Somewhere I have a pic of his boat with his...
If I were doing it, single hand, I'd pick a Cross 26 Trimaran. Suits every point you made, except the traditional one..
at my shop I have a spray can of an adhesive especially designed for foam. Got it from the wholesaler I buy foam from. It's too expensive for a small use like that though.
Check with a local...
Since we've strayed from strictly tools, here's something I posted on another board recently concerning a new shop.
Many many power outlets, on seperate circuits. When I wired my current shop I...
I have a joiner, seldom ever use it. My Bailey #7 does the job almost as quickly.
10 inch table saw with a good fence- I have a Delta Unisaw with a 220v 3hp motor.
Band saw- so important to me...
There's also a bulletin board for B and B yachts- I've built one of his designs and plan a second this winter. Nice folks, Graham and Carla. Graham visits the board frequently.

Thanks MeerKat - I missed the moved notice. Got it updated now.
He did do a beautiful job on the boat and it sure looks to have quite a bit of room for a 20 footer.

Here's a site on the building of a Vagabond. Justin did a beautiful job on it and from what I hear, the boat really sails well.
