Last spring I finished building boat number nine, a 14'00" Parker Sharpie sailing skiff. With a 17'00" kayak, two canoes, three Nutshell Prams, a 15'00 Ducktrap Wherry and a 24'00" Raven, I don't...

I am currently painting the hull above the waterline of my fiberglass Raven with Interlux Perfection urethane two part paint. After mixing A + B together, how long is the remaining paint useable?
So . . . . . I built this 14'00" flat bottomed Sharpie over the past winter. The hull is basically okoume plywood covered with a layer of fiberglass cloth and West System Epoxy.
Some of the...
Eddiebou - I bought stock rudder gudgeons and pintles from Hamilton Marine and then modified them. In the meantime I received the "Sailing" catalog from West Marine that had pintles and gudgeons that...
With a little bit of help from the grandchildren, we'll have the hull painted in the next week or so.

My brother in law, Jack McCurdy was back this week to try his hand at some wood carving. Jack did an admirable job carving a rope handle on the tiller. Jack will be back next week to finish the final...
Finishing up some loose ends as we prepare for the priming and painting. I cut the slot in the top of the mast for sheave or pulley for the halyard(not really sure I'll be raising or lowering the...
Wow! Very impressive!
A real lot of fun to build and also will be a fun boat to sail.

Nick,
I had to look at the plans and the actual hull. What I've done is correct, when the hull sits in the water, the bow is actually out of the water and most of the keg is submerged.
Special thanks to fellow Forum member Steve Brookman for his assistance with my project.

JimD, I have the same thoughts about the tiller, but I followed the plans . . . . we'll see!

This is boat number eight that we have built as family projects, three Nutshell Prams, a 17'00" Queen Charlotte Kayak, two 12'6" Indian Girl canoes and a15'00" Duck Trap Wherry....
After a little more than four months, we completed construction of our 14'00" Cape Cod Oystering Skiff, a Reuel Parker designed Sharpie. ...
I wonder how much they want for just the tarp?
Very nice!!
I've have had very good service and have been very happy with the sails made by Stuart at Dabbler Sails. www.dabblersails.com
Wow, I'm going to rig up my Raven for a wheel.
There is nothing wrong with with stitch and glue, but with screw and glue, molds, chine logs, stems and transoms all working together, it feels more like actually building a boat.
I have two of the Elvstrom bailers in my Raven. I put them in ten years ago as replacements for the originals(30+ years old). I'd have to say they don't leak a drop and my Raven sits on a mooring...
Great photo! As a grandfather of four little ones, two girls and two boys, I must say they bring a lot of joy into my life.
I'd have to disagree with Hunky Dory. The 5/4 x 6" mahogany type decking that a lot of lumber yards carry may look and work well, but is a nightmare as far as holding a finish. I used it on some...

These are in the West Marine "Sailing" sourcebook that I received in the mail last week. Maybe not traditional, but they look like they would do the job for many different thicknesses....
I too was faced with the same problem when building my 14'00" Sharpie. I ended up buying standard bronze pintles and flat/strap type gudgeons. I cut the flat/strap gudgeons and had a friend weld them...

Yesterday while shopping for some metal handles for a small sailboat that I am building, I asked the salesman what type of metal was used in the chrome Wilcox & Crittenden handles. He did not know....
It's 6:15am and I'm sitting in the lobby of the Hilton Garden Inn on Commercial Street, less than a half a mile from the show entrance. Will be at the show when it opens and will post photos! Hold...

Had a great time at the Hull Snow Row yesterday. Bright sunny skies, brisk winds and almost one hundred boats. We came over across Boston Harbor(four miles by boat vs. thirty eight miles by car) on...
Wow, very impressive! Both the construction and working under those conditions.
Very nice, nice project, nice photos, nice story and follow up!

Wow, Steven, very impressive! I'll try turning them on my lathe(or my drill)!
I'm currently building a 14'00" Cape Cod Oystering Skiff(Sharpie) with a 16'00" bird's mouth method mast for a sprit sailing rig. Where would I purchase a masthead sheave for the main halyard?
Sounds like a great day!
Yes, we got five or six inches of snow this morning.
Here are a couple of photos of the breasthook, same boat. The breasthook, transom, stem, inwales and rub rails were all salvages from a carved sign that took down off a building. The quarter knees...

The outwales or rub rails and breasthook were mahogany. They have stayed as nice as the day I finished them. I typically give all of the brightwork a sanding with 220 grit and a freshin' up coat on a...

]Leaotis, I really enjoyed your video very much! Can I ask a simple question? What kind of a mount holds the camera in place? I'm currently building a Parker 14'00" Cape Cod Oystering Skiff(Sharpie)....
Bobcat, Wow! A double thickness of 3/4" on to top of 3/4". That is some rub rail for a rowboat. I just think it sounds excessive.
. . . . . . . . . or more!
Dave, I built a 15'00" lapstrake Ducktrap Wherry a couple of years ago and had the same concerns about too much heat affecting the epoxy. As Rob said, if you're scorching the wood you're probably...
I would do like David G mentioned, add flattener to the last couple of coats.
