Golly it has been nine years since the great wossname challenge to plan to sail around the world in a wooden boat. It might be time for more big-thinking things in this thread.

She looks beautiful then, and it makes the current work all the more worthy seeing how good she looked.

[QUOTE=WX;6697375]I think his sail was flat cut, mine will have 6% camber in the panels.
In shape his first sail was similar.
His second sail was a bit different.
Yes I think I remember the...
Looks nice. Is it anything like the design that goanywhere used on his TS? I don't recall how many panels his had, but it flew well, stowed well, pointed ok for a jibless sail, and was fun.

Siquando seems to be back on the market.

It's ten years since you lot convinced me that writing a book was a compulsory entry condition for this forum topic. In a miraculous coincidence I got a royalty payment yesterday! $0.33

Awesome!

I'd still like to see first hand if it sails acceptably well.

What did they do to that gorgeous fat-bottom boat?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I bet if they put pontoons under it as it is it would turn right way up by itself.

Narsty. That's hold onto the wheel and try not to die weather.
I also saw some hair raising measured wind speed data from Tasman Island station.

Tell all please. :)
A very capable looking crew if ever I saw one.

Cold, wet and windy here as well. Good boat weather if you have a dry boat in a good marina.

Just past Apollo Bay, aiming at Portland, planned fallback Port Fairy, achieved Warrnabool after advice from Rob and a call to Coast Guard to confirm the sight lines in through the reef.

It was literally madness, not sailing chops, but thanks for the comment.
Now that enough time has passed I'm happier to reveal that I'd escaped from pre-existing near fatal depression to do that...
If you'd booked a Tassie holiday you'd be spewin'.

I had the great pleasure of sailing through there West to East on a 46 foot motorsailer, Serena, delivering to Sydney. The only time I've been through either direction without stopping at Refuge...
It's looking like 'Do Not Go Sailing Through Bass Strait' weather for a few days

Gaz that's a terrific painting. You've done well to get that one.

No it's bloody not! It's down the end of my street. I can put you up and put up with you if you can get here. ;)

Yes, random boat bits.
A few weeks ago I found several bags of recently retired dinghy sails in hard rubbish. Brought them home 'just in case.' One set has already been donated to a local dinghy...

Sheila and I have been invited out on Katana tomorrow night to anchor off away from street lights and look for meteors. It's a Mothers Day gift for Sheila. Apparently I'm going to be in charge of...

At the risk of being banned for talking about boats that aren't wood, I am sitting here drinking beer, my cheeks wet from a stray tear or two.
Does anyone remember Drift? That book you sneaky...
Are you doing most of a rebuild? If so you might just finish in time for some dry weather and hopefully some sailing.

It is a ferro hull in this instance.

Good, well engineered solution.

Yes Gary I think you're right.
Thanks for the pages.

As Gary said, a big Hartley. It's listed as a Queenslander but the guy selling it says it might not be that design. It has the look of a Tahitian in the bow. So, lots to be discovered about it.

My daughter, the outlaw and the cat will be moving from the unit they've been renting to their new-to-them boat, starting the process around the middle of May.
I was super proud when she got her...

Thanks Gazz. My daughter and son-outlaw might be looking over one soon. It's got wood in it. Also plastic. But a fair bit of wood.

Does anyone here know anything about the Hartley Auckland design?

Vincentia's a nice spot and I've hooked onto one of the free moorings there on the way down the coast, but the Bay is very big, plenty of fetch to build up waves.
Not sure if still there but...
They're looking for something a bit roomier if there is something.
There's a Swanny 36 up North of you lot. Glass on ply so there's at least a bit of wood involved. Quite a few good things going...
If someone who isn't me (this time) has $20,000 and wants to buy a boat and live on it for up to six months, what boats are you guys aware of that might be worth considering?

I'd buy it but it has a gas cooktop ;)

I'm sad to be old today. A boat has come onto the market on the Sunshine Coast, a design I've lusted after for decades having test sailed and almost bought one.
Unfortunately not a woody. Curse...
That's another major milestone all but completed. Well done Greg.
