I decided not to. keep my CLC Peeler Skiff and put it on Craigs List. Could have sold it 4 times the first day. Went to a nice couple down in Portland ME.
Have missed but one show in the past 20 years or so and wife says I will miss this one too.:arg
For the first time since I launched FESTIVUS I have decided to get some liability insurance. She lives at a mooring on Lake Champlain from May to October. Two seasons ago the mooring line parted and...
Or if anyone in the area of Vermont who would like an almost complete free set of WoodenBoat magazines starting with #1... contact corson34@comcast.net
Coming along nicely.

I just called the owner and he had it in the water and used it last summer,
and just wants to find a good home for it.
Not very exotic but I used Benjimin Moore porch and floor on my last FG canoe project. Gave it to my son who used it hard and the plaint held up pretty well. Nice thing about it is touch up is pretty...
Looks like mulch to me... sad to let a boat get in that shape. A little rot?
Waiting (im)patiently for the next edition....
I like Bruce's suggestion of a bit of tumblehome at the transom for strength as wells visual interest. A Jon Boat is the most basic hull form (IMHO) and the tumblehome would raise it to another...
Looks to be strip planked and in fairly good condition. Would be nice to know more about the builder and what happened to the steam engine...

Yes, what Nick said in post 21, and Bruce in 22. Would love to see pics of the inside of that Willits canoe.
Funny, (tongue in cheek for those who might take me literally) I thought I knew...
Avoid a belt sander for sure. I know nothing about a Willets canoe, but I do know what damage a belt sander can do....
Very satisfying how a sharp box cutter goes through that partially cured cloth.
I do like the way the sloping top looks and that is really not a great place for a seat in a small boat anyway. Your build is coming along nicely.
Just a suggestion, if you made the top of the anchor box flat it would double as a seat. One of the Vivier designs did it that way. Ah, yes, Koulmig!
The roof of the cabin on my boat, roughly 8' by 8' is 1/4 inch meranti, glassed only on the outside it has an arc of about 12" over the 8' span. There are two full length grab rails about 2' from the...
Apparently selling the business. Cant verify the truth of that but saw it on another site.
I always seal all raw wood with coat of epoxy before painting. Great primer and be sure to hit end grain hard.
plus me on the Dynel. Great wear resistance and the texture is non slip if you do not try to fill the weave.
Well, I use Benny Moore Porch and floor on my boats, inexpensive, wears like iron. Keep in mind, high gloss will show every single little blemish in your hull, and magnify the big ones. I use satin....
biglad, she is built like a tank!
Cool, and I like the idea of the shelf for storage. Will you have a hatch directly above the head so you can pee standing up? I had one on mine and it was a blessing.
Sorry, won't that beam be in the way of using the head?
I would only run the bunkboards down to the WC. I would not make them higher than the mattress except near the caddy bulkhead. Look for designs of others on Google. Make 'em pretty
Those bunks look a bit narrow. On my cuddy I brought the bunks right up to the opening to the caddy cabin to get the most width for the bunks ass possible. You really do not need much floor space....
Yeah, what Garret said. PT is not without some risk to human health either in machining or handling. If you are coating with epoxy, why do you need wood saturated with a preservative?
You are doing a great job. Different motors sometimes require different transom heights. Usually there is a sweet spot for mounting the motor so it is always helpful to have a specific motor in mind...
Do you have access to the drawing that shows the bolt pattern for your motor mount? That might have some effect on the design of the well.
Not sure I can see the value of The angled structures...
Oh, this might be a bit late, but wondering if you could put the battery on one side of the splash well and the gas tank on the other side. You could even use a built in gas tank with a filler and...
Always a trade off here and there. Enjoying your build...
You should be able to mock up your splaswell based on the dimensions of your motor when tipped all the way up. I think you can find those...
The reason I asked is they are usually more leak resistant when mounted vertically, and probably not so comfortable to sit on. Consider how often you will need to access them. Probably not often.
biglad, are you boing to put those hatches on the tops of the seats or on the face of the seat support? Not sure I understood what you meant in post # 82
Just be aware that most of these hatches are not waterproof. Love the build, post more pics, please....
Yep, wishing all a Happy Thanksgiving. I got to hear Arlo in person sing that very song along with many others at the University of Vermont Chapel about 30 years ago.
Great work, biglad, watching with interest....
Wonderful boat!
Grab it. My guess is those delay pieces were seat fronts and the builder thought he get. by on the cheap. My guess is the rest of the hull os OK.
Nice progress, biglad.
Looking great, following with interest.

Great to see your progress. Looking good.
Yep, closed Sunday, fewer boats... and did not even go to the ice cream shop by the bridge.
You would have enjoyed meeting the builder, Rich. His cedar came from sunken logs that had been retrieved and sawn into usable material. I will try to post a link to his build. He documented it with...
Rich, did you get to Mystic. A fellow had a beautiful Jericho Bay Lobster Skiff at the I built it myself part of the show.
Talked with one of the vendors at the show this AM and he thought the WoodenBoat show at Mystic had been cancelled for Sunday. Hurricane Henri....
