    Re: Madagascar Schooners

I've been in Madagascar about 20 years ago. We made a 3 weeks cruise on private boat (Grand Bank 36) starting from Hellville (Nosy Be) and 3 weeks more inland.

Getting rid of faked dead eyes

Anthea has this sort of faked dead eyes, with turnbuckles inside.
These are real dead-eyes, able to hold the rig.
But I don't like them and don't want the maintenance they impose.
    I want to keep...

Fantastic and very instructive to see this metal work.
Just a question about the chainplates: why riveting after welding?
Mecanicaly speaking, welding should be strong enough I gess.

  15. Re: Stop me buying this turkish beauty - tirhandil - gaff rigged....or go ahead buy h

I just saw this boat has been built in Erol Agan shipyard.
Twenty years ago I asked them à quotation for building an Anthea sistership.
They had indeed a good réputation at that time.

The Tirhandils are, to my eyes, the only buyable boats in Turkey.
They are the Caïques descendants, and might be good sail boats.
