Tenner, Glad to see you back at your shenanigans.
What are the plans to layout the shop up there? Workbench on the east wall? Maybe under that big window on the south wall? Cupboards? Shelving? Or will you just leave it as is and work from dad's...
Yes, there has been a bit of progress. My goal for this week is to finish the moulds, set up the strongback and possibly get the transom planks splined. I have moulds 4 and 5 completed. Mould 1...
Tenner, I canna recall how many years since I stopped by the bow shed and I must admit, I feel an incredible urge to stop by wherever it is you're now working on TB. Unfortunately, I am not in the...
Well consider it bumped then. :) Hope he returns sooner rather than later.
I was starting to get worried about you Tenner. Sorry to hear of the losses, glad your dad is on the mend. Hopefully now you can get back to doing what you do best. What is that anyway? Entertaining...
From my "mere mortal" position, a craftsman like Jim has every right to be full of himself.
Keep building and keep posting Mr Ledger.
Same as everyone else. I check THIS THREAD daily. I have nothing intelligent to add so I say nothing at all. Keep up the beautiful work Jim. We are all in awe over your work.
I'd say you've started already and you're in the right place. Keep looking around online here. Google is your friend. Ask questions here about what you don't understand. There is such an incredible...
Who will take up the torch and finish the project? It's an immense project and I for one am not qualified to do that. Any takers? :)
Hermaphrodite brig I'd say. But that main...... nope just doesn't do it for me.
Could you show a few shots of the roof structure of your shop? I know it's a bit off topic but I'm fascinated with how to do this job if I'm going to build something in a covered space.... The boat...
I know it may be a bit late but might I suggest all chain rode? That way he won't cut it so easily next time. :D
My only question is, with the speed at which you work, how come it's not done yet? ;)
I dream of black locust. I have 4 in pots and I'm trying to figure out where on my property to put them. Wish someone 30 years ago had planted a few hundred here. I'd have all the boatbuilding...
I couldn't wait 10 pages if I tried. I have to see it as soon as I notice it.
Some details about how to lay out the transom for the laps would be nice to see. I am doing a Catspaw and would like to do her lapstrake. Have yet to get to the point where I need to have that...
Just awesome work.
Beautiful. Now, how about a few British tea clippers? I have a favourite in mind.....
That looks really cool.
Cindy Lou Who? Who was no more than to. ;)
Must feel terrible running into all that boatbuilding wood by accident. You should send some this way. We hardly have any left.
More about that drill press? Looks like it could do a whole lot more than any drill press I've ever used.
Thanks for taking the time to explain it so clearly Luke. Much appreciated by everyone I'm sure.
Just looking at the shadowing and shading I see a beautiful hull shape. Get a half hull or full model of her built quick so we can see her "fleshed out" as it were. :)
Oh, nearly forgot; welcome to the forum Bill.
Pics of her? :)
Stop by my house one day, have a look through my bookshelf. You're welcome to whatever is there that you think may help you out. I'm sure there are at least a dozen books that will help you...
What a feeling.
John Gardner's book Building classic small craft has all you need. Table of offsets, some construction drawings and descriptions. My brother and I have been talking about that lately and I just...
I received a PM suggesting we start a thread. Perhaps Scott could put a sticky on this one and we could use it to remember those who have crossed the bar. Scott?
I know it's been a while since I have posted any progress. That's because very little progress has happened. I did however finish up my lofting table and lay down the grid to loft the boat. I'm about...
Maybe a "dearly departed" thread is needed? Something where notices can be posted and dear forum members remembered by those of us awaiting our turn.
How about an article about the upkeep of historic ships such as HMS Victory and the Charles W. Morgan? There's a thread going on right now about the Morgan that is absolutely enthralling.
How about Hercules Linton? I'd love to read up on him. He designed what is arguably the most famous merchant sailing ship in history, Cutty Sark. Talk of her build, the yard, the bankruptcy etc would...
Got any details on that shop you're working in? Looks like it may be just what I'm looking for. Length, height, width, materials etc.?
I couldn't help but throw pics of my black lab Sambuca into a few of my canoe build photos as well. She's a great kindling maker. Leave a piece of wood lying around and in no time you have kindling.
Sounds like you've messed it up royally. Nothing for it but to send the boat to me for disposal and start anew. Don't want a cracked rib in her now do ya?
Cool shelter Thad. Got one to build a 57 foot schooner? :D
Baby bootlegger is to my eye by far the most beautiful power boat ever designed.
Time to reconstruct the thread I guess. Too bad, it was a great little thread.
Love the shot of both hulls hauled out at once.
To be continued? You can't just stop there.......... :(
Kinda big to be mugs, I'd call them jugs. :D
Baby Bootlegger is my all time favorite power boat. All curves and sexy as all get out. If I were to have a power boat, that would be the design I'd build from.
Google plywood scarphing jig. There are a ton of ideas out there from the simple block plane to belt sanders to routers and circular saw jigs. Most simply involve stacking the sheets in step form at...
Any updates for us?
Video game controllers are hardly adequate training for swinging a big hammer! :D
Carriers and SSNs are FAST. How fast? VERY fast. Blow your mind, it's nearly impossible to comprehend fast. I'll leave it at that.
How come nobody has mentioned conception bay or come by chance? Then, there's always Dildo.
