Re: Mast cracks--bad enough to open with a saw?

It's an interesting idea. In a mast of this size, I doubt if there was any real internal pressure. It's about 18x3.5 at the base, tapered. Most likely I clamped my exquisite, super-accurate...

The inside was painted with pox. Bruce, I could have glue-starved it when I clamped it. I am thinking I might, as you say, go heavy demolition and force the splits, reglue, and go on my way. I...

Hi Jake: Would you use epoxy? I have 3m filler. I was thinking Gflex rather than straight pox...and yes I could put a bee hole in or remove a screw and put a shop vac on it.

Mast cracks--bad enough to open with a saw?

For the past three years I have been sailing either a Dutchman or a Wayfarer--and our Coquina has mostly been in a garage, unused. We live in the Sierra foothills and it gets very hot in the summer,...

I think this is an interesting craft. It is lacking some of Sjogin's drop dead perfection, such as the doghouse, but still...cool boat.
