  1. Re: R/C model sailboats are becoming extinct

I have noticed the apparent falloff in kid's interest in making models, whether boats or airplanes. I once was in Paul MacReady's shop, and it seemed as if most of his staff were still tinkering...
  2. Re: Elmore Leonardís 10 Rules For Novel Writing

I thought it was obvious that the list of 10 rules was the kind of thing that one of Leonard's characters would do, not Leonard himself. And his characters mainly were the anti-establishment types.

Biggest hidden price when I attended was the requirement to stay in overpriced dormitories for two years--considerably more than tuition. Dunno if that is the situation today.

One of the best old movies I've seen recently was "The hustler". One of the worst, "Cat on a hot tin roof". Both starring Paul Newman.

I meant to say 1906, not 1926, for the steam record. I've seen various speeds for the steam record, dunno which is accurate. Might note that an Indy car was supposed to achieve 145 mph or so in...

    Re: 1910 Tesla?

Electric cars were the first to top 60 mph, and held land-speed records until the 1926 Stanley Steamer hit 126 mph. The two technologies both produced their maximum torque at a standstill. The...
  10. Re: Did global motor vehicle production peak?

If electric cars were that cheap to manufacture, there would be no ICE cars on the road today. As for replacing the world's vehicle fleet, you would have to start with Cuba, where the fleet hasn't...

  12. Re: Elmore Leonardís 10 Rules For Novel Writing

Leonard is particularly famous for dialogue. His characters tend to say what you always thought you should have said, after the fact.

  16. Re: Movies that have held up and those that don't
