Tom many thanks for your thoughts. You helped me make up my mind to stick with my original plans and not try a traveller type arrangement.

Tom, I need to reply and thank you for responding to my post on a similar query recently. But as you mention here that your main sheet runs from block to clew to block to hand, why not run it simply...
Ben Fuller I do apologise I missed your reply...or did not reply at least. Thank you for the input
The build progresses..photo below of its current state
Thinking about rigging...I plan on...
10 years! Wow...well done. What an achievement. And it looks great!
I have just fitted metal strips on the 'keel' of my dinghy as it will sit on a beach, and used the 2nd option. Time will tell how successful that is....
I'm planning on naming my dinghy TeFiti which is the name of a sea goddess in the film Moana and apparently means a distant place...I believe its a version of Tahiti but I dont really know. The boat...
Beautiful
My experience is very limited but I have been thinking if I were building my dinghy again I wouldn't bother....unless the joint was over say 120 degrees or something as a rule. But I suppose it...
Looks great fun, well done!
Looks fantastic but unfortunately I for one cannot open the attachment links?
How about a harness type arrangement with a rope/strop that runs under each side of the step and through new holes through the stem timber but fore and aft of the step? When the mast is stepped it...
I used a fibreglass butt joint on my dinghy I'm building. I reckon it'll be plenty strong...but do what you want
If yer a Devonshire bey yer'll be plenty wise enough |;)
One of these? https://duckworks.com/pacific-troller-dory-plans-pdf/
Just come across this thread, looking good
I understood that there is no need to sand if you apply the second coat within a specified time? A bit like hot coating epoxy
I'm making a decision on what to use on the keel and rubbing strips soon. Probably plate alu or white oak as that is what I have...stuck with either epoxy or Sika 29i adhesive which I have no...
If you seal the ply with a coat you should let it cure for a week or so before sanding. And no you will not achieve a mechanical key without sanding. To remove amine I have just sprayed water on and...
This is what I came up with in the end, it needs finishing of course
Thank you for the input112854
I used 'payson' butt joints on my build, when I went to break up the scraps it didn't break on the joint so while I appreciate its not quite this simple it seems to me pretty strong albeit of course...
Beautiful work Y>
Some great advice above...if you haven't glassed before I suggest a little practice on a scap piece of ply, you'll get a feel for the materials as you combine them which would be useful. The peel...
Wizbang yes the mast step will be on the bottom, it isn't fixed in yet but is ready to go. I plan to measure the centre of the partner then drop a plumb line
A few pics...109524
Thank you...
Wizbang it will be a cat boat rig ie no jib. The partner will come out when I've got a passenger or two and I'm only rowing or running an outboard so I need it quick but robust enough...
Hi, I'm nearing the completion of the build on my dinghy and am thinking about a quick and robust way to fix the mast partner plank into place when it will be sailed. Yes I could use a couple of nuts...
I'm well into a 12 ft dinghy build in a UK garage....I suggest you measure up your garage and figure out what you could build. I could go up to perhaps 14ft at a push in my garage, and consider the...
Assuming you're going to tape the joints as a matter of course.
If you want it to last fiberglass the entire bottom or use good 'paints'. Some paints do not need a primer if epoxy is used
...
Thanks again, your further input and clarifications is truly appreciated!
I'd better get on with the build.... cheers

Thank you Peerie Maa and Todd for your thoughts and comments
Not sure I can get the dagger that forward without issue, maybe I misunderstand... I have moved it forwards about 1ft, any further and...
Hi, happy 2022!
My very slow build of a small 12ft s&g boat continues...I am nearing the point of glassing and applying epoxy to the inside BUT am thinking of adding a mast step, partner,...
Thanks for your replies and thoughts...sincerely appreciated.
I will crack on and try not to over think! BY:D

Hi....so I've started a s&g build of a slightly utilitarian 12ft boat to mess around in with our two boys... and have got a bit stuck. I am proabaly over thinking things but dont want to build in an...
