Thanks mate me too.
I am encpuraged by how excited my son is now about sailing since we did the training course at the Cruising Yacht Club.
P.s. we chose the Hartley without knowing much...
Yeah OK.
I think of got a set up in happy with now.
And yes I wasn't sure how vital (or not) it was for cruising.

No it's just for cruising.

Thank you

We've already put a nice dent in the cabin top doing this once :(
That's a big part of why I wanted it to just be one clip that could be taken off together.

Yeah I saw arguments for both bolts and screws with the base. I went with bolts. Hope I don't regret it 😬😬😬
Yeah that makes sense with the base and the saddle.
One question though. Why would...
Just trying to keep it neat (and easy).

That's actually hilarious.

Looking at the attachments to the base of the mast I am starting to realise that I probably should have put a mast base plate under the mast base for attachments points for the Cunningham.
In...
Thanks mate.
These are hard learn lessons that id rather not learn the hard way :)

Yeah this is what I was wondering.
Ok I'll stick to standard.
Though I did find this one in my collection that is about 3 inches long that I might use on the vang.
It looks very strong....
Yeah I'd love that. I've googled quite a lot and have a CD of some Hartley ones but more is always better (until I get confused).

I feel like if it's a screw in shackle it's going to annoy me doing it up and undoing it watch time.
I just don't know how strong the quick release shackles are like this one....
P.s. we have abandoned the roller boom idea already.
Top much boom hardware in the way of getting the claw on and I didn't want to remove it all only to put it back later.
What do people...
Anyway lots of work today.
Bouyancy installed
Floors in
And raised the main sail for the first time....
Lots of them seem to have this set up.
This one was on a CD from the Associationhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230218/2cbf4f4b372cdf883a115d226cb8ff3a.jpg

I'm loving learning from you guys

Honestly the only reason I was planning on doing it is because that's the way it is in the plans (and on most Hartleys I have seen).
They take the vang and the cunningham and the outhaul to the...
Yeah thats my plan.
From the saddle above to a double block on the boom. Back and forth to a double block on that fitting at the base of the mast.
Then use a block to split it each side to...
And finally is this bottom bracket strong enough to attach the vang and the 2 x cunningham blocks?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230216/d827bacc91e8c45311fbdeaebfc72c5e.jpg

It would (and probably will) but I'm going to start trying out the roller boom set up.
I just realised that it does need to attach to the fitting on the end of the boom as it needs to stay where...
Yeah OK that makes sense. Thanks.
So I'll just ignore the block and use the outhaul as is.
It will come in handy if I give up on the roller boom later.
And if I don't have an inhaul and...
Also can the vang claw be attached to that saddle or does it need to be attached right back to the aft end of the boom?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230215/c3a9334d42c448df92fbba419afc0cc8.jpg
...
I'm trying to workout this outhaul.
Would there be a double sheet around that block running all the way back to the base of the mast?
Or would it go front that v cleat to the block, them back...
That kind of competency could be a way off yet :)

Thanks mate. That'd kind of what I was thinking re the knot and that's exactly what I am looking at.
Is the sheet (I wrote rope and corrected myself :) ) getting caught around the tiller a big...
I'm even going to try the boom roller for a while to see how it goes.

Ok more googling and this 4th option is a very simple one. See the slip knot used at about 40s.
Would it work on a TS16 or would it only work on smaller dinghies?

Ok another newbie question that I have been researching for hours to no avail.
The set up I have is a roller reefing boom and I'm keen to try it that way before changing it (despite it seemingly...
Ah. That makes sense.
Sent from my SM-G975F using Tapatalk
Yep that makes sense. The ones I'd seen had an extra bar across the middle.
That was the bit I couldn't work out (and I did google it :)...
Thanks mate.
I'm planning on replacing it with a halyard shackle.
Though I'm not 100% sure of the benefit of a halyard shackle over a regular one.
Sent from my SM-G975F using Tapatalk
Fair enough.
I just thought you guys already knew everything :)
You seem to.

1. So I assume this jib firler just connects straight to the bow peice?
2. Do I just put a bolt through the top of the furler into the loop and firing at the bottom of the jib?
3 and 4. At the...
Ok. I'll have another look and another think re the mainsail halyard.
I already have the jib furler and i might even have the locking cleat for the rope. So I don't think it is any extra coat to...
So no mechanical advantage for the mainsail halyard?
Also when pushing down on the gooseneck do you just do that by hand?
Or would you use the vang to help?
P.s. thanks for all your awesome...
Damn. I'd just slept on it and decided to do a furler.
Now I'm confused again lol.
Also I don't get how the swivel at the head of the jib halard works anyway. If that top block rotates won't...
There doesn't appear to be anywhere for the mainsail halyard to come out.
It looks like it just goes down the same groove that the mast goes up.
I dont get how you create the mechanic...
I feel like hanked would be easier for now.
Furlers just seems like another complexity ATM.

So here's some more pics of the jib halyard
First the cleats and the slide on the jib side of the mast (that assume might have been for a Highfield lever?)
2nd pick is the halyard lock. Seems...
Yeah its a Railblaza kit. And yes it runs off of batteries.
The ports can accept a whole bunch of stuff.
I got a kit with the stern light the front red/green light and the extension to make...
Cheers. Are there alternatives for jibs without eyelets?
If I used the plastic twist on hanks could I fit the screw into the seam without an eyelet or is that just asking for trouble?
Also how...
On a slightly unrelated note.
How do these work?
Do you need eyelets in the jib?
I've got one but mine seems more closed at the non clip end....
My only reservation with totally throwing away the wire was the cost of changing the blocks :)
I haven't quite worked out how the main halyard goes through the mast yet so that description is...
Thats a great diagram thank you and that's exactly what I got from your excellent description.
The wire I have is far too long for that.
The block on the end of the wire would cone right down...
Meanwhile. Handles, cleats and windows ...
What knots would you use at the start and the end of the spectra?
Sent from my SM-G975F using Tapatalk
Thanks for the very detailed reply.
This makes sense.
Except for 2 things
1. The wire with the block reaches down to below the level of the top of the cabin. As you can see in that pic it...
Also what kind of chain?
P.s. thanks guys these are super helpful replies.
Any tips on the jib halyard?

Hmm I'd love to see that more closely.
A few of those pics didn't load.
What size rope? How many times wrapped around?
