    I’ve had good luck with TotalBoat surfacing primer on naked okoume, followed by Kirby’s finest, another conventional alkyd paint.

    If you give it a thorough sanding and two coats of varnish, thatíll serve as primer for your paint AND make it possible to refinish the boat in varnish at a later date if so desired.

    My guess is that your D2 or your brush are contaminated. Try a new can and a squeaky clean brush in a dust-free place.

    Your odds of getting an even color match are better if you strip the existing finish completely. Use a chemical stripper.

    Be very gentle in the sanding. That veneer is paper thin.

    A prop from the ceiling to the errant corner, or you might try turning the boat upside down. The transom tops are flat and on a flat floor, it might straighten things out.
