Dont want to be out of order here but I too would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this regarding everdure or anything else though first I guess I should ask for clarification as to...
I would use the WO and forget about it.
One hell of a nice thread!! A major effort on your part and all for our benefit and enjoyment. thank you. Im currently restoring a SLRS and this has been of great benefit to me especially.
Carry on...
If youre into the Japanese tools the way I am, give Japanwoodworker a look, they have some fine tools. Do it soon though as I hear they are closing the doors sometime soon. Breaks my heart too.
Rich didn't say.
I was there yesterday. The boat is sold and Rich Scofield kept the brand new yanmar.
Oh I keep eyes on your blog too, its wonderful as well.
Heading to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum tomorrow. Ill try to get some pics of the boats there and post them here.
A truly inspiring build! I have the plans and this thread so after school I hope to make this my boat as well. This is really something to aspire to Jim ( at least it is for me ), thank you for...
Classes begin tomorrow. I dont know if this one will be any better to row. It will be an historically accurate repro for the Charles W Morgan. If they were beasts this one will be too. It a pretty...
I finally made it to The Great Lakes School of Boat Building and was informed of this years project. The school has been asked to build one of the whaleboats for the Morgan!! Classes begin tomorrow....
Lookin really fine Jimmy!! Been wondering about you. Good to see you're still movin forward on my boat, Summer is right around the corner. You are gonne be a smiling so big. That is a fine, fine...
There was a boat in a movie with Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell, 3000 miles to graceland. The name of the boat, in the movie, was GRACELAND. Don't know what it is but it was in there right at the very...
Is this a seperate, supplemental sheet available to those who have already purchased the plans from Paul? Do we just contact him for it?
Tony LeDonne was the father of builder Ken LeDonne. Cool boat and a clever name. Some beautiful photography in this thread. The subject matter makes that easy though. Beauties all. This should be a...
It's everything I'd hoped for. Can't wait to take delivery! I've got the new trailer like we talked about and a new cover so I'm just waiting on you Jim, but don't feel rushed, I'm enjoying watching...
Actually there are many things worth buying at HF but the Chicago Ele angle grinder isn't one of them. Look at local pawn shops for a dewalt or something. I had one of the CE angle grinders and got...
It would have been stronger had you used a wedged through mortise, other than that, sort of nice.
OK then. I really didn't mean to get anyones ire up. I was just wondering what folks thought of "wherries" as sailing vessels. The thread really isn't about the trap skiff anyway. So what do you...
Bernadette, I wish I could figure out how to blow the pic up but it just gets blurry, and yes, you are seeing it correctly, it's a shotgun toting farmer cat carrying a dead dog. I also have sniper...
I think that maybe in this situation the Trap skiff being mentioned here, is being mentioned here becase the designer in question has a model called the Newfoundland Trap Skiff and he builds a lot of...
Maybe the plans are different but I have the DTW plans already and they show full-size half breadths for both types of keel members, ply and solid planking.
Bernadette, I have never once spoken with you on this forum about any topic but I too read of your protest and pending action if the damn stupid, overfed thread was not removed and hated that it...
Walt does seem to be rather popular lately. Check this out

If I get two more people to buy plans I'll get mine for free! ;) Just kiddin. It's OK about the misinformation. I didn't understand what the #@^ you were talking about anyway. I don't know how...
Would you please hurry up and finish this thing? ;) Excellent looking work as always and the thought put into each eand every component is certainly going to be worth the effort. Maybe I will come up...
This is cool. I ordered a set of Christmas wherry plans yesterday! Looks like we'll be seeing a few wherries being built. I wish I had sapele to use for mine. Need to make a little extra room in my...
Well, yes you have to build an enclosre to fume in but you can and should do it outside. Don't be skeptical just try it. I may not know as much about boats as I do furniture. Barring that you could...
Though I've never tried mahogany, you can do the same thing with indstrial ammonia. Thats how I finish all of my QSWO arts and crafts furniture, ammonia fuming. While some say that it's possible to...
You are correct Jim on both counts, the molds were from the Young family not J Steele, which I noted my uncertainty with the ? and I definitely meant that the keel plank was 12inches inboard, not...
From what I have read from Gardner and Culler and the Mystic Seaport books I have as well as Chappelle, Walter Simmons has two models who's lines are as close to some of the old original salmon...
I have the plans for the Ducktrap wherry and while it has deadrise greater than the acorn and your wonderfull boats it doesn't have near as much as some of the original working wherries as I see them...
Oh yes Jim, your boat is the %$W#! I love it. I think it is going to be a nice sailer. I have watched your build from the get go. I like your layout very much. In fact, I was going to "borrow" many...
Hey! Hey! Hey now, please don't do that here. :) I'm building a wherry, 15' to circumnavigate the globe, carry 8, sail in a catagory 5, rows well and I can cook and sleep aboard. Oh yeah, full...
Jmadison, Thanks for all the pics, your boat is sweet. Looks like she'll handle more of a load than I thought. Is she 15' or 16'? If you said already, sorry, missed that. I like the sawn frames....
Thats kinda what I keep thinking James, the Christmas wherry I mean. Then again, the Matinicus Double ender is supposed to be a fine sail/oar boat as well. I satrted with a much more populated list.
Did it happen to come from an old peanut factory from the late 1800's -early 1900's? I have 25 beams 16" square by 40' long from and old peanut factory in Georgia. Just curious.
Does anyone need some mylar? PM me.
If I am committing any type of violation, please delete.
You can get wet dry paper all the way up to 2000. You can also get diamond pastes to use. Scary sharp system I think they call it. A nice flat slab of granite will work better than glass for the bed....
Madison, thanks for your first hand assessment of one of the boats in question. I am living back in WV and have access only to a few lakes of 3-4 thousand acres and the Kanawha and ohio rivers so the...
Yes, that is his Christmas wherry ( that yellow is something else ). The Christmas was in the Small Boat mag 2007 too. I likes.
Yes, Wilkinson is a great find buut you can also look for Barton, Greenlee and other, OLD drawknives on ebay. Most all of the older ones have better material and all work about the same but some are...
I agree with gerarddm about the "salmon wherry". I think that is actually Walters MDE with the transom option he details in the plans for that boat. Damn fine looking boat, whichever one it is.
I would love to be able to do just that. Sadly though, there is just not much of a sailing scene where I am. Well, make that no sailing scene where I am. I want to relocate so bad.
I could, but then I wouldn't get to build another boat. :)
Great idea!
Good luck on your boat. It's a cool looking boat. I knew I had seen her. I just got out Culler on wooden boats and looked at it again and she is really really good looking. I hope all goes well for...
What about something Jims Matinicus double ender from the same designer?
Well, the thing is, I am only beginning to learn to sail but I have considerable, not vast, experience rowing. Been rowing my Ross Lillistone FLINT for a few years now and am proficient enough for my...
