If you are still trying to remove the TAPE, warm it with a heat gun on as low as it goes, or try a hair dryer to heat it.
That will lower the risk of gouging the surface with the razor scraper.

Sean,
Welcome and best of luck (I'm thinking you will need it :) )
"Hardheaded and stubborn" two assets you will surly need in abundance.
But a fine looking find with lots of (apparent)...
Tunah.
Well first, welcome to the forum.
I am not quite sure what the problem is.
Are the seams losing the compound? (usually do to drying out.)
Are there shrinkage cracks that you are...
Dave R,
Well, given the parameters that exist, the area is mostly a covered porch, which would mean T&G flooring.
My suggestion is to remove the (offending) OSB and put in Ipe T&G, with S/S...
Dave R,
Well, certainly a "out of the box" design!
I love it. You and your contractor did good!
However, I am still a little confused about this. If the sub/finish floor (the green OSB) is...
Dave R,
Nice addition, looks like a pleasant place to relax.
Seems to me, that even if you protect the floor as is suggested, you will still have water puddled on the floor, and up against...
surfacepreptech,
Thanks for the "inside" scoop!
A few points come to mind:
It seems to me that the best, even most expensive, method of surface particle-removal is of little use if...
Lots of interesting reading suggestions here!
Are Chichesters' books ( "Gipsy Moth Circles the World"; "The Lonely Sea and the Sky";"The Romantic Challenge"; "Solo to Sydney"...
chrisk,
I would test to see if there is much moisture in the floor first. Tape a piece of clear plastic, say a foot square, to the floor for a day or two to see if any condensation appears UNDER...
My 2 cents,
Imagine an empty watertight compartment with a 1/2" breach and compare it with the compartment fitted with EPS foam.
Not to be argumentative, but what should be used is...

Well, that's too bad, I was hoping for that " AH-HA" moment to explain everything :)
My opinions of what sank the Bounty (aside from the wrong decision to intentionally sail anywhere near any...
Seems to me that, in addition to the limitations of a straightforward " just the facts" account of the hearings, that the choice is between a "generalized" yet competent news reporter...
And...
Interesting tracking information on Bounty and Sandy.

Soundings Magazine has published some freedom- of - information documents of the USCG rescue communications.

Yea, the personality of all the crew made me want to know them better.
There are like some of the young (I'M old!) people I know and have met.
Interesting and interested. Hard working and loyal....
I certainly don't mean to lose track of the seriousness of the loss of Claudene Christen and Capt. Walbridge.
Too sad!
The truck I have with these (those now) hearings is that those who testified are in jeopardy of federal prosecution for perjury now.
The part I like about the hearings is I got to watch.
I...
Rich,
Bud was 85 when he died, is that before his time?
It was just about 2 months after his wife, Babe (Adelaide?) died. Make of that what you will, they were a wonderful couple of...
[QUOTE=The Gentleman Sawyer;3702228]Yeah it was his testimony that they didn't fill the fuel tanks in Boothbay because it was too expensive and they only bought enough to get to New London where it...
Yea! I had that thought myself . I attributed it to an idle mind (mine).
Also a product of that mind was the fact that Cpt. Walbridge, by a number of accounts, had an injury that could well have...
Dave.
I, too have been riveted to the hearings, catching as much as possible. Absolutely fascinating!
As I recall. the configuration of the bilge pump manifold is such that they only pump one...
skipjackrock,
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your acquisition ( :) ).
This is, IMHO, the best advice you can find about decks.

Have not seen the movie, and don't intend to.
This discussion, to me anyway, is a well balanced one from credible sources.

saml604,
Just my 2 cents, but what about 3 tangs welded in to connect the upper fitting to the lower one. One on the forward side of the mast, and one on either side for shroud...
Well, Nova has certainly slid down on my respect list.

Apparently, The Bounty was a little more than a "...wooden boat(s) growing older..."
She was recently restored http://easternyachts.com/bounty/restoration.htmand,and, I would have thought and...
Might try trunnels

Chuck,
Seems all the bases are covered by the responses you got.
I would only add: the nut should be run out to the end of the shaft to (one hopes) keep the threads captured and the hammer...
Huuuummmm!
Me thinks more an advertisement then restoration movie!! :)
Nice job though!! :)
Tom,
Tenacity rewarded, congratulations!!
Thanks for the update.
Mapp gas is a little hotter than propane. But,I think, not enough to matter.
I imagine you are working in very close quarters and, as you say, around wood : Soooo... careful!!! And, when you clean...
Tom,
Your frustration comes through loud and clear!
You seem to be doing what is correct, I can only say that you may have success with repeated heatings and quick quenching to break the bond.

bischoffboatworks,
MacIntosh used 3 types of frames for the boat referred to in his book:
Solid staves for frames between stations 1 and 3.
Ripped ones for stations 2 and 51/2,
And 4...
flanagaj,
Yes, the station spacing 'should' be given but is not in that chapter; it is 4 feet from #1 through #8, and 5'6" to stem and transom. Not made clear in the book.
Hope this helps!
flanagaj,

After awhile, you learn that a proper roller, used correctly, will give a much more even(er):) coat.
davebrown,
A hearty "WELL DONE" and cheers! Those pictures tell a thousand imaginative words.

They were used quite a lot and the sanding attachment worked very well if you used the...
Chris,

I think you really should read what McIntosh has to say on the subject....
I may be wrong, but it looks to me like Ash framing and 'Home Despot' steel T- nuts and steel machine bolts for some of the fastening!

Just my first thoughts.
I have a Tormek sharpener that has a truing jig that uses a carbide bit to do the cutting and a stone grader to dress.
Seems that since you have a lathe, you could...
My best shot would be to start with minimally abusive ie. water and soap, and work your way to maximum, through WD40, alcohol, print thinner, etc., to scraper and sandpaper. The idea being finding...
