Cowabunga dude.
Where's the sloping water, maaann.
It's time to get shacked in the green room, brah.
It's a 10ft sup. I used the 11'6" for the over 10' comps but because it has so much rocker the tail would always pop out when I went up on the nose.
This new board is actually called a nose rider....
Yeah that's me, the bald guy. I wear a surf hat these days for warmth and UV protection.
That sup on the left is 11'6" weighs about 13 kgs, still have it. the sup on the right is 8'3" carbon fibre...
Second what JB and Wiz said.
Reflects light around a shaded area and easier to keep clean.
Went for a surf this morning

The classic yacht Rawhiti that I sail on is finished in Awlood (Uroxsys).
Peter Brookes who did the restoration of Rawhiti and is now a half share owner of her applied the product himself in 2011.

Thank you Alan.
The quality of the craftsmanship I have observed on this forum over the years has been very inspiring.
Cheers,
Mike.
Did you use the 207 hardener. It has a UV inhibiter in it but they do recommend to overcoat with a UV resistant varnish...if there really is such a thing.
The current finish on the transom of the...
Go cedar Ian, it's more in keeping with the whole solid timber feel.Y>
Epoxy with 207 special clear hardener. Will be followed by varnish. This is how everything else on the boat has been or will be done.
Uroxsys is a bit pricey and even if I did use it, I would spray...
There are only about 10,000 Hectors dolphins left, mainly around the South Island. Gill and drift netting being one of the main culprits for their decline.
There is a ban on commercial netting of...

Thanks Rick.
I'm just heading out to the workshop now to finish carving the tiller handle, which is in the shape of a Hectors dolphin, hence the name.

Is it me or does that island look like the space shuttle??
You should live there John, looks as though it only rains in that one corner.
Only the sole boards so far, the same colour will continue on the outside.

Baader Meinhof phenomenom-cognitive bias.
It occurs when increased awareness of something creates the illusion...
I second that. Nice work Edward.
Great colour contrast.
Could you please tell me the title of the build thread, I would very much like to check it out.
Cheers,
Mike.
Cool vid Greg.
I would have preferred bronze fittings for the dinghy but...well...yeah...one day.
Once the epoxy had cured to a fairly solid rubbery state the cassette was removed and the gudgeons were cleaned up with a utility knife.
The gudgeons have been polished ,so sanding the epoxy off...
Picked up the gudgeons, backing plates and shims from the stainless fabricators on Friday then set about epoxying the shims in place.
The gluing surface of the shims were given the 80# grit...
Ha! According to my user title, this is the big kid thread...but dad jokes more than welcome.:arg
Thank you Timo and it's my pleasure.

Good work ,John.
This particular pile turned out to be a bit of a fizzer.
There were a number of holes in the base which had me wondering and when I ripped it down the middle, all was revealed.

Thanks Ian. I was reading an article about the Hectors dolphin and had one of those Shazam moments.
Cheers.

You paint your boat green, then suddenly...every boat you notice... is green.
It's like a car that you have never really taken any notice of...until you buy one...and then they are everywhere.

Hi Kunz,
That is a very nice looking boat you are creating.
I like that outer laminate at the forefoot shown in post #74.
You are doing a fine job, some nice neat work going on there.
Cheers,...
Hi Alan,
Yes, curves are good, the challenge is making them look fair from all angles.
Now for a curved tiller handle. Cheers.
I have been giving the chainsaw a bit of a run down the centre...
Haha...yes...I know a little bit about that.
The wires have that temporary solution look about them.
My workshop has a few permanent, temporary solutions in place.
Cheers,
Mike.

Looks like they took a shortcut.|;)
Probably part of some latterly installed anti theft set up.
Nice detail Jim.
Have you given any thought as to using it to hide some of the wiring, the wires would then be positioned above the coat hooks.
Cheers,
Mike.
Put a wet coat of something on bare wood and it changes the look right?
I knew this piece of Totara would end up with dark tones but the black spots just came out of nowhere, especially when they...
Hi Ian,
"Finding the timber".
A wooden boat builders challenge, especially using the more traditional methods, as it were.
Good on you Ian for taking it on, all part of the wonderful build...
It certainly has, Steve. Two years...jeepers, where does the time go...so many boats, so little time.

Bit late to the party here but there is an alternative to the Sika 290DC pro ( which is very good) . It is Sika 291i. This is an adhesive sealant, it does not usually require a primer for timber...
Yes, that is correct, Alex.
The canvas cover also contributes.
Makes mast removal easy, the boot can be slipped off without breaking the seal around the top edge.
Cheers,
Mike.
Hi Alex,
I glued up a cone shaped sleeve out of a tire inner tube which was slipped up the mast from the heel before stepping. It had a fairly tight fit on the mast and conformed to it's profile. ...
The historic eighteen footers in Sydney have a spray skirt that is lifted in the leeward position. As you can see, not a lot of freeboard going on there.

I fastened up through the straps, no glue. The way I had designed it all meant the strap thickness matched that of the sternsheet boards so it didn't matter which way they were fastened.
