Chesapeake Light Craft's Annapolis Wherry. Looks like it might be easy to put together....
I'm curious about who carries what in the way of navigational electronics on their boat.
Besides a light for my Sestrel Moore compass, my list:
Onboard always:
Old Garmin 45 GPS
Datamarine...
Ship graveyard north of San Francisco.

Ah crap. I hate this part.
Yea, I suppose it's the new "shine" that gives that instant gratification. I admit I can't resist it either. But is there any reason to suppose that a fall varnish job would "breakdown" in any way...
I have a 34' cruising sloop located out on Shelter Island, east end of Long Island. It takes about 4-6 days to do all the main varnish work. This doesn't include all the other goodies that need...
A couple years back I did a delivery on a B-40 from Connecticut to Maine. Leaving Stonington on the first morning there was a bit of fog and visibility wasn't great but we were familiar with the area...

Alan, I'm afraid I don't about farms. Kids? I know a little about boats and kids ... I think. For kids, personal responsibility is a game, a test of authority, a long shot, a chore, a way out. I'll...
For those that may have missed some of the details of the proposals here is a link to the LMDC site that shows both contenders, and the one that seems to have been premiated.

Hull limitations have been covered. Hull speed is a given. However in your comparison with a cat rig vs. "fore and aft" (jib and main), sail configuration and appropriate trim is probably your best...
I've just been reading this thread with keen interest ... had my first ice boat sail yesterday. OOOOh BABY!
Todd, your desciption was perfect, except you forgot the part about the ice chips...
Stories about Haiti. I spent quite some time there from '85 to '87. My wife was stationed there with UNICEF while I was in New York. She finally left when "Baby Doc" Duvalier was finally driven out...
Dave,
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. It seems that the pressurized mantel type lanterns are too delicate for the use I will put mine through I think. The Dietz lanterns look just fine to me....

Thanks all, great help. By the way, I would only use this when at anchor or moored. Even in a bad harbor the swing of the lamp isn't a problem. One bungee straight down does the trick. The hanging...

I'm ready to get a new hanging oil lamp for below to replace my camp lantern. I have a wall mounted oil lamp but I need a more mobile version. The boat has a number of well placed hooks on the...

My lament is that the "old" forum, that used to be up as a read only, is sadly gone. It was a hell of trip reading Cleek and Miller go at it. Anybody remember?
Here are my boyz. You can do the genetic reverse visuals for me.

Yup, that's them. You could build a building with them.

Rod,
My winter cover rig uses those "clover clamps" extensively. They are essentially what you discribe, a swiveling pair of aluminum flat clamps with recesses for the conduit. They work very well...

Matt,
You might consider Plastimo. I have this unit and it's as old as the boat, 35 years. It's small with only a broiler, but if space is tough it works. While not the heartiest in construction...

I've got propane on my boat. It scares the crap out of me but is a joy to cook and heat with.
There are now laws which cover the requirements for venting, piping and the like. I've got my rig set...

Rod,
The "luffing" rule is pretty clear. You can still take a boat head to wind when to leeward on an overlap. The rub is that you must clearly give them the opportunity to do so. Herein lies the...
Gaff, you might read Tom MacNaughton's article "Healing the Break" (I think that is the title) in WoodenBoat many years back. It describes the technique you are referring to. Or better yet, e-mail...
Not a chance Ian, that photo was taken in the spring. She is as patin'd as the base now ... and I like it that way.

Back to your question. Ed's response is the basic technique, sheet the main in and you will slow. However this technique gets a little dicey in a blow. A sheeted in main downwind in a blow...
