Some winter viewing, thanks Ian.
Thanks Ian. A lot different situation than that thread about blues. I’ve allotted one day a year to sailing Margaret ;)
Thanks Everyone just as I thought/hoped.
Rumars, PG has given his ok to Celery Top Pine. The design was originally for hardwood and he specifies adding internal trim ballast if required.
PG has...
Next boat, a Gartside cutter, epoxy glued strip, two layers cold-mould, all framing laminated.
I have a source of Celery Top Pine ( similar characteristics to Doug fir) 2nd grade which has the odd...

Thought I’d better post some pictures of my miserly progress ( getting better recently)
Above picture shows cabin getting towards done, top dynel’d, hand rails and portholes (recognise...
You certainly covered some ground Ian. It looks to be a fantastic cruising area. Thanks for posting up your trip.

Welcome back Ian and Alison. Ian I dunno if it’s me but I can’t see pics in #972 but your other posts I can???
Just offering a guess here, could it be that a car exhaust was pointing in that direction during build?
Who knows next they’ll be making plastic boats ;)
Thanks Greg, Leo and Steve are into the fiddly bits now which I don’t find as interesting so it’s refreshing to get in on the early stages of others
Two more that I’ve found lately, equally as...
I made my own epoxy/glass tube to Paul Gartsides method shown here:

The thread I uploaded to WBF is here:

heads up for YouTube viewers:-
A guy in Finland (he speaks pretty good English) has just started a 50’ strip/veneer cat ketch. If you go on and search for “Arctic SeaCamel”. Doesn’t fully get to...
Thanks for your reply Jim. I always admire your individual responses to everyone that chips in, even after all this time. Your stamina in producing what must rate as the most valued thread is...
love to see the other boats and atmosphere. Some other episodes have loads more of those shots.
Love those cabin beams Jim. Having done mine recently- (well a couple of years ago!) I can appreciate the difficulty. must say I cheated and used a Carlin to sit em on!
I’m wondering, the ends...
Thanks Greg and Rick.
Thanks Alex, something to work on.
Hi Greg, just want to pick your brains about preparation of Huon Pine for gluing or epoxying, do you do anything special? I’ve heard it’s an “ oily” wood
thanks
Alex, would you be able to photograph those cable-entries a bit better please. Bit hard to see but I think I know what you mean from your description.
Thanks Timo
I understand your apprehension Neil, my only suggestion is to search for Ian Milne’s thread on “Kotik, Kotik, kotik” (not sure on commas etc) or for threads that people have built Eun Maras...
In the “quick reply” box select middle icon of last pull-down menu in icon bar. Should be pretty intuitive from there. You can post photos from your own computer. Sorry I don’t know how to draw...
At a guess Elmo, Id replace the bolt in that swivel with a shackle (Im assuming the fitting in your hand is a swivel). Maybe a new swivel (does it spin nice?? ) might pay off.
Thanks I’ll check it out
Elmo in #72 you show a stern light fitted in place of the rod-holder, does run off batteries? Can you tell me what brand and where you got it please?
Alex is that a combination lock you fitted on companionway? What is the metal pin made of ? Are they exxy$$
Following Mike. Great work.
What about a vinyl bladder??
Looking fantastic Greg. You were worried about all the different Timbers but I didn’t notice that at all. Your workmanship is outstanding. Hopefully your contract doesn’t extend endlessly so you can...
I’m thinking a 3 or 4 ft torture board (run in a for/aft plane, representing next plank) to sand the bevel so it goes in a fair curve may be easier than planing it Ian ?? My 2c cos I’ve never done it...
Well done Ian. It’s always a pity that the most difficult plank is the first, why is that?
Merry Xmas and have a great sailing new year to you and Alison
Starting to get very exciting Ian, I bet you’re looking fwd to getting out in shed for the first plank fitting? I look fwd to that posting.
A lot of boats sit that long in build in worse conditions. I’d be following the paint companies directions. Have you actually run a moisture meter over the planks? May not be as dry as you imagine.
Thanks for the pictures Ian. She’s coming along nicely. It will be rewarding to get full length planks out. I’ll have to see if we can get that Sika291 Wood colour here.
It’s great that Covid...
So much stuff. Can’t have enough lockers by the looks. When the time comes I’ll be looking back here to make sure I haven’t forgotten to take account of my stuff. I remember my last boat the stuff...
I use raptor plastics for glue ups when positioning is crucial and I can dispense with screws and the soldering iron to get em out. Perimeter and field of large panels such as cabin-top was a good...
Good to see you having a great time Ian. That bridge must have been some climb. Doubt I’d make it!
Thanks for the video Greg. A video gives a much better sense of scale, your mum will be happy. Things are coming along very nicely. I wish I had some of your finesse with details but as you know a...
I’m attaching my handrails with csk head screws from inside cabin through the deck beams so then it’s flush inside. Only prob is guessing where the screws go through :( Epoxy will be my choice of...
Congratulations Thomas, she looks fantastic. Thanks for the launch photos. Now for retirement and sailing her full time.
thanks for the compliments Jim. I’m 5’10” + and can sit comfortably in the aft part of cabin where I have the quarter berths/seats. Any other questions please don’t hesitate
I just found sail area =...
Condolences to Walt’s family. I enjoyed following along this thread and it’s a shame he didn’t get to complete it. May he Rest In Peace. Good Bye Walt.
I see them now Ian. Setting up those planking battens looks like fun :o
Lucky you’re not building an epoxy boat with that weather. Next you’ll get icebergs.
Can’t see pictures in #95 Ian, but I can in other posts up the page ????
It must be a relief to have your timber sorted and the transom looks really good. I can’t imagine what a workout your tape measure is getting!!! I’ve gone and bought a Moto Guzzi so it’ll be a...
Love that first photo on #959. Good news about the motor, can Alison start it?
Mark aka mazlaysia, you may be better off starting a new thread, you’ll get more exposure if you phrase it correctly.
