John Harris should be added to this list of designers. He has put a great many small boat builders in elegant small craft. I have built three of his designs (kayak, sail & power) which were perfect...
9 years ago John Harris sent me plans for a Sherry Raid he modified into a Canoe Yawl ( I love George Holmes}. At that time I was 70 years old and could still sit on floor boards to handle the sails....
I saw a shorter version of the Bluejacket many years ago and was gob-smacked. Nice to see one again.
Every time I look at the long scar on my left hand I remember the model wood and paper airplanes I would build 60 years ago. A P51 Mustang caused the scar. I learned to respect tools after stopping...

This is a picture of an 80ft poplar tree which was threating our house. Cut down in the nick of time. Our tree surgeon Cameron said it was lucky it had so many vines holding it up.
I had two Fein Turbo II vacs purchased about 8 years ago. Both have given excellent service until now. A month ago one started a shrill screaming when turned on. Thinking it might be the carbon...

One good thing about selecting a Dory kit from CLC is that you get a HIN# and Certificate of Origin from them. Otherwise you will have to deal with your State DNR for them. They also have a forum to...
Dries slowly .....still bit tacky after 24 hours. When dry it seems ok. I use rustoleum antifouling bottom paint (only available in blue and black) and it is very good. Quick drying and covers well....

I my words concerning expedition/voyages in Small Boats Yearly was not
in any way a criticism of your excellent writing in the 2021 issue. I have followed
your articles in Small Craft...
I have purchased every Small Boats issue since 2007.
The 2021 issue bothers me.
Year by year Small Boats has reduced the number
of boats reviewed per issue. Examples:
2007 25 reviewed
2013 21...
I am trying to create a canoe yawl like the Holmes Yum-Yum. The other photo is another one of his canoe yawls. These two examples show the coamings as being rectangular. I have only used oval steam...
Singer/songwriter Leon Redbone has died. His followers will raise a glass of whiskey to his memory and perhaps whistle one of his songs. My favorite was the one he chose for his obituary, "Please...

You might profit from carefully studying the Van Dam wooden boat site. They seem to be doing everything right....right down to the smallest detail. They have a cult following among those with the...
You might want to consider the Skerry Raid from CLC boats. They have sailed in the EC and done well. Any of the boats you are considering would serve you well.

Looking around for a replacement for my older Tacoma (for which I paid $19,500 new) I have been gobsmacked by the price of a new one .... going on $30,000+for one with variable wipers and cruse...
I've been eagerly taking notes on the many kind suggestions given here. I have just use some of my purple heart making a skeg shoe and had forgotten how really hard it is. I believe it would make a...
I am building a Skerry Raid Yawl on a very tight budget. I'm making my own wooden blocks, etc. but find new bronze anchor fairleads are very expensive ($75 each and up) and beyond my means at this...
Houston has called for civilian boaters to aid in their rescue of people stranded in their homes by rising flood waters. I have seen flat bottom John Boats as well as jet skies and bass boats being...
If you will kindly read my post # 20 you will find no position of mine on this subject given. It was addressed to Katherine as a possible explanation as to why her father might hold his view. If you...

We should elect Red Green in 2020 then we would be part Canadian and entitled to wear the maple leaf whilst traveling abroad. Well maybe just a half leaf. Just saying.....

Sorry....I should have searched for the 2008 Forum discussion on Radiata pine. This wood is now labeled as "pine" but looks to be the same clear straight timber as the Radiata. Some specifications I...
Home Depot has been selling a very clear straight pine in lengths up to 12 feet which was first labeled as Radiata from New Zealand. Looking up info on New Zealand Monterey pine (always called Pinus...
I've been searching for gudgeons with horizontal bronze/brass tangs bendable enough to mount on a double ended 15' sailboat. I can find lots of them in stainless steel. Duck Trap carries solid...
Kinda looks like an orange comb over.
Not the opening but:
People aren't supposed to look back. I'm certainly not going to do it anymore.
I've finished my war book now. The next one I write is going to be fun.
This one is a failure,...
John seems to be quite thorough testing his designs. His Peeler skiff was tested by the Coast Guard before release. I'm sure he will heed the suggestions offered here as to testing parameters for the...
I think you will find that this is the actual bilge pump on Bob Smalser's boat.

Here is my grandpa Heine. He taught me many things - like most of the questionable ones shown in this picture.
I've had to give up most of these now - I don't miss them but I do miss him.

I'm interested in building Atkin's Willy Winship. I would like to use a lug or gaff rig on her. Has anyone done so?

For a simple easily built small craft you might consider Nina by John Atkins. 11' 4" x 4' 7" she is a beautiful little cat.

Believe me I'm really not complaining ... My week in Norway earlier this year was worth every dime. We found the Pingvinen (Penguin) in Bergen a very economical place for dinner or a drink. A great...
Better yet ... take lots and lots of money .... The Norwegians used to sail in their long ships to rob people of their wealth. Now they stay home and rob people when they come visit. |:) Not that you...

On his plans for the Gozilli Sam Devlin shows it pushing his Millie Hill from a notched stern. Most folks opted for just the outboard - but building a matched pair would be way cool.
