there may be sexism but then there's "reverse stupidity" for sure...I was living aboard Decatur in SE Qld. Guy off the boat in the adjoining slip made the comment that I was "too talented" when he...
just a bit of an update:
mum has improved.
took dad up to see her yesterday.
dad is beside himself with worry and anxiety. he cant stand being away from mum. the best way I think I can explain it...
im pleased to say mum has improved quite considerably today:
she is more alert
reduced need for supplemental oxygen
vitals are near perfect
breathing eased
and sitting up more in bed.
she's on...
this is what COVID in the elderly looks and sounds like

^Geez John....here I was thinking the overhang on my previous boat/s was crazy.....!!!

Not sure what size boat you are in.
In my experience aboard Decatur (42') and Pequot (32') where each had overhanging booms of approx 4 to 5 ' they did as you say: cause mayhem and general havoc...
oh yes! Bangarra are most excellent! I have yet to see them in person but this is on my 'bucket list'.
yes exactly the point I was making. thanks you for spotting this! he was a prolific boatbuilder. having said that, he built strong, seaworthy and beautiful boats.
who is the most entertaining: the popstar or the crowd?
Don't be too hard on D'Arcy!!!!!!!!.....I had a German Shepard ("Harvey") that was dopey as all get out.
He managed to pass the entrance test to get into the Air Force as a guard dog and then...
Neil,
I take it Chilli and D'Arcy will have dibs on first ride in boat???? they better or I think you will have a mutiny in yer hands!
Your boat looks good. Launch day not too far of hey!!!!????;)
That is mighty generous of you and I would graciously accept.
What do you suppose postage would be?
I really appreciate all the replies form both sides of the table...
I spoke with Dad today and showed him photos of the planes. I like to engage him in boat work but pick and choose what I talk to...
Ive not known them ever to have been dropped nor I expect so in Dad's time of usage. I checked the soles today: they are flat!
I'm considering as to whether it's feasible (time and money) to repair three No.4 hand planes I have inherited from Dad.
To be honest, they were all in a deplorable state and all have had repairs...
do you suppose this issue may have been the case with the 'odd' PM I received a short while back and which I posted about in the Bilge?
looks like a nice wholesome event and a decent turnout in spectators. thanks for posting.
I showed Dad the photos of the differing bits today. He couldn't remember why he specifically had the bits with larger centre bores.
Unfortunately, time has taken it's toll on his memory. I wish I...

ah yes, now I understand! I use this technique all the time in all manner off applications with big and little wedges!
yesterday I took stock of my progress.
to be fair, the job is moving...
yes, I saw the join date and the number of posts (in this case zero). given that with the utterly confused nature of the PM, and the fact that I was PM'd in the first instance raised my suspicion. ...

I liked Bruce's comment. straight and to the point and damn right truthful.
yes his responses are rather curt at times but generally on point.
YouTube is not a good place to start learning about...
I wanted to share these from the yard.

Thanks George.
I appreciate your clear and concise instructions!

Ive got plenty of blocks (left over keel pieces mostly from Dad's...

Greg, the bird feeder is super! I love it! I plant trees for the birds but don't have much water for them when it gets hot.

hmmm...yes well I think I need to bite the bullet and do some work on the cradle. Ive been trying to avoid that! I just want to get down below to start work there.
The acre props are a good idea...
Hey John, The construction of the cradle and the uprights are so strong they wouldn't fall or push over or break if the boat decided to move sideways! I have that much confidence in them. In that...
Hey Mark, nice story!!!
Its rather fortunate I had marked in my waterline as that's my only reference now when putting the boat back on her marks. If I had a 100% level cement floor I could've...
Greg, thanks for your input. much appreciated. I'll reply in blue as its easier to see my notes.
Alex, there's nothing to be gained in your suggested method except a whole lot of unwanted and unnecessary 'issues' and more to be gained by lifting.
Thanks anyhow.
approx 2t. in the ballast keel.
The overall weight is roughly 4.5t from memory. The crane guy weighed her when we moved her. She was weighed in the cradle so I figured there is at least 300 to...
I can give this some thought but the first thing to come to mind is no, not really Thad. It's rather long and dare I say, a cumbersome cradle. It suited the purpose of transport, that was all.
If...
I've hit a bit of a glitch in the levelling of the boat |:(
Andrew managed to loan a laser level and we went out into the shed yesterday to do the work. However the entire boat needs to be raised...

He has multiple bits in the same size with many having a...
and nifty idea #36: use old Rupes sander parts to hold up plans.

the parts are probably expensive enough themselves given a Rupes sander cost about $600 years ago. but heck, these clips...
whilst Im waiting on a loan of a laser light to use over the weekend to check lines on the boat when lifted, I have been tinkering...

thank goodness for the internet and my post #177.
Ive cleared all extra timber from around and under the boat that was in use for moving. Next job is to put her back on her waterline but I couldn't...
Andrew,
did you know there is a rather 'industrial' type compass (Sigma) very similar to the Sestral Moore made by Cassens and Plath. I haven't got a price on one yet.
Andrew,
thank you so much for your help so far.
Im not certain there is anyone in Queensland who can repair a Sestral Moore. I would have to do an internet search. I seem to recall someplace in...
