    Long shaft. The shaft length designations are nominal, and vary by engine. Will probably work fine. A short shaft ( 14-16 inches or so) would be way too short for a 20 inch transom

    Transom. That's for a Short Shaft ( 15" shaft) motor. As Bruce wrote, that exact distance is nominal and should be tweaked with some shims, depending upon how she runs after install.

    If it helps, most production power boats have 13-15 degree transoms.This allows the motor to trim under and helps keep the bow down, especiallu while attaining plane. ( Is this a planing boat?) But...
