I was one of the 28.
As others have said, it will certainly bend easier if 2 layers.
I finally got the interior cleaned and took photo's for listing for sale.
Again, it came up pretty well.

The deck and cabin got a scrub with Oxalic acid.
The teak trim came up great, but not much difference to the gelcoat.
I ended up using a cleaner/polish to cut through the oxide layer of the...
Oh yeah, ready to go back in the water. I polished the hull this morning, which was quite dirty from road grime while parked up next to a busy road 136666
I'm not going to misplace this one!

The Reactor got the second coat of antifoul on tonight.
It rained 30 minutes later, luckily antifoul isn't water soluble!
The opti got a sand of the filler I put in some low spots last night and a...
There was no work on Upstart, but I got the hull sanded of the Opti.
I was lead to believe it had been stripped and glassed.
It is actually varnish, so I've sanded it back to key it and will paint...
I masked up and got the first coat of antifoul on today.
Looking good!

The liftout of the water went well.
I found some osmosis in the hull, but anyone who I've mentioned it to says "It's 50 years old, of course it's got some osmosis".
After the antifoul sanding to...
Something that slots over the top of the rudder post maybe.
I took the box, which now has a fiddle rail around the top to check for fit.
It was pretty good considering templates I made were difficult to keep in place while making them

I now need...
The new fuel pump arrived during the week, so I fitted that on Saturday morning. $450
Suzi started straight up and idled nicely.
I jumped in the water with a 4" scraper and removed a heap of weed...
Have you checked that you have enough space to tilt an outboard in that well?
The photo's are a bit flattering, but it has had a water blast on deck so not full grime mode as I found it.
Still lots of weed hanging underneath too!
I was in the quarter berth looking at the...
Some of you may have noticed I'm a little distracted at the moment from other threads on here.
I have been working away making the new engine box.
It is in primer as I write.
Plywood, that will...
Photo's as promised.

That's the one JB. I seem to have only the storm jib and 110% Genoa, not the big overlappers in that sailplan. They would probably be not much use in Wellington.
Sorry, still no photo's as I left...
I'll get some photo's tomorrow, promise.
Here, hopefully is a link to another that is for sale. I have no connection to this boat.
Manukau, Auckland Reactor (Whiting 25) $9,900 or near offer
It's amazing that he designed it at 15, and they are pretty good to sail.
Photo's, yeah I realised there were none when I started the post last night.
Only photo I have are of the outboard serial...
I guess if you don't have any leaks, a float switch isn't needed.
My big boat Haumuri now only has the drip of the packing gland after repairing the rudder leak finally.
Yeah, I was thinking that...
Back for more punishment!
In reply to an offer to come sailing last week, one of my Haumuri crew who had moved to Auckland a few years ago, replied yes as he was in town.
He also asked if I knew...
That went really well.
The weather was more Spring than Autumn, with a tornado wreaking some havoc 50km's away on the West Coast.
After coffee and a sausage roll at the boatyard cafe, she got...
I've got the rear of the engine box, and the sides forward to the cockpit floor installed.

It looks like there is plenty of space...
I've never owned, but driven 2 MGB GT's in the past.
A regular steel bumper one for a 10 minute test after tuning it, and a V8 on a few long journeys.
They were fun but a bit agricultural in the...
If I had a supply of solid wood, I would build a boat that was designed for it.
Clinker, Carvel or Stripper readily come to mind.
Stripper would be my choice as the next least skill intensive way...
The seal on the other side that isn't destroyed will have a number on it.
Otherwise I/d, O/d, width and lip shape are the dimensions that count.
The bottom of the holes look like there was never any filler attached in there, more like the surface of the glass.
As Wizbang says, it is pretty thick filler on there as well.
Is it that thick...
Since the last post I've got 2 coats of top coat paint on the internal repairs, looking good!
After some drying time, (the Altex single pack paint stays really soft for a long time after it has...
Today I stripped the peel ply, light sand and filled the rudder skeg with West 413.

That simulator would be better used connected to a blender, to make smoothies and slushies for the "kids".
This afternoon I worked on the rudder keg attachment.
I painted everything with neat epoxy,
Glued and screwed the Jarrah locating blocks into the cutouts in the hull,
then laid 3 of 90 mm wide...
None of that can happen for most of us in New Zealand.
Even if you owned land, any trees we have that are suitable for boatbuilding are protected now.
A kauri fell across the road at my sisters...
Yesterday I stripped some of the paint off the hull above where the skeg is, then cut a 5mm deep 90 x 30 trench into the hull both sides beside the skeg.
I've made a pair of blocks that will be...
I moved to the outside last night after sanding the daggy bits of glue on the rudder repair.
I removed the stainless steel brackets that attached the top of the rudder skeg to the hull.
This has...
The fuel filter, control cables and earth strap for the prop shaft have all been ticked of the list now so the engine is ready to go once the exhaust pipe to the back is put back in.
It is out...
I was thinking a block screwed on as well.
On the engine front I've got the battery cables in (the ones I had were 100mm too short).
I need to finalise the control cables operation and setup,
the electrical panel cables are just long...
Today I got the internal centreline timber shaped and glued into place.
I was running hot with the gluing, as it was pretty warm and I was using the fast hardener.
Nothing like putting the pressure...
I changed the back of the cockpit of my yacht a few months ago and ended up with the attached photo.

They are pretty big, so you...
Some progress yesterday.
I glued the block back up to the rudder post using wedges to hold in place.
The wedges were inspired by watching the youtube channel "Sailing Yaba" where a boatyard in...
Here are some photo's of the rudder penetration repair.
Looking forward,

The rudder tube is visible in there.
The block is...
I went to the timberyard and got the centreline timber for the rudder penetration repair.
The yard has been getting out of exotic timber for a few years now. They once had a shed stacked to the...
Today I got the rear of the cabin back on, so no more tarpaulin. It held well, but the weather played mostly nice or blew from the South which blew it down not up.
I started looking at the exhaust...
The switch I have is probably an older version of the "Johnson Ultima Automatic Digital Bilge Switch" if you search it.
OK, the engine is now sitting in place, looking green and shiny!
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52737020371_88c3e1bacc_c.jpg
It sits high enough that there isn't much to be gained by...
I installed a switch that is proximity switches rather than a float.
It switches off at much lower level of liquid, and doesn't detect fuel or oil.
I've had it installed for 10 years now with no...
You could try to use the wonky grain for knees or such, but yeah you have to cut it out.
After lots of trial and shaving bits off, I got the back end of the new engine bearer down to the same level as the other side.
At least the front end was fixed at the correct height easily as a...
I built a tender a few years ago that still stops passersby, who praise it and take photo's.
The experience has taught me how to accept praise for work that is good but not perfect, because most...
