Agreed Todd and perhaps I could have said “contributes” rather than “causes” but even then I’m sure that you’d correct me and I guess rightly so: However I’ve not had any amine blush issues after...

Agreed Todd and perhaps I could have said “contributes” rather than “causes” but even then I’m sure that you’d correct me and I guess rightly so: However I’ve not had any amine blush issues after...
Nothing wrong with precoating and letting it dry prior to glassing, I did it on my H28 and it alleviates any somewhat dry (or drier) spots in the glass that can be caused by the ply wicking up the...
Glorious looking morning there Neil and good to see some progress, ‘looking forward to seeing her flipped over for framing
The variation that I’d suggest on this is to still glass it after filling and fairing the deck with thickened epoxy and then do any finish fairing with your TotalFair over that before painting.
I think this work today has been my favourite part of this rebuild so far, working out and fabricating the aft cabin bulkhead structure from Huon Pine. I’ve used mortice and tenon joints on the...

Beautiful! What a lovely job you have done.
And I tend to agree with the epoxy repair - given that she is going to live on a trailer and won’t ever really have the time to take up. Also repeatedly...
‘hasn’t been too much of an issue so far GD, a few bumps on the noggin’, getting the cabin top itself on though will be a whole different story......
Thanks Bruce, Willin’, very much appreciated guys
Thanks Andrew - 'not so sure about my level of patience though....
Thanks Mike, cheers
Before I could cut the cabin side panels to length to fit them I had to work out how I was going to build the cockpit bulkhead so that I could determine where the aft corner posts would sit:
I’d...
Cabin sides are now firmly fastened in place - glued down with epoxy, taped inside and out and then screwed down from underneath with SS coach screws. A bit of a challenge maneuvering them into place...
Nice Tom, and really nice to see an update on Jim
Cheers Mal, ‘hope you had a great holiday mate.
A few photos might help Ron. Sorry if I’m telling you how to suck eggs but you need to rout with the grain wherever possible - if your going against the grain you can’t avoid the tearout and with DF...
New Zealand’s version off a “warm environment” :d

I never cease to be knocked over by the work that you are...
Interesting... how does an act of military aggression (which China, if done to them, would likely declare an act if war) which points to a completely different agenda than China is trying to portray,...
‘not sure how can this be seen as anything but a deliberate attempt to down the Poseidon while not actually shooting them down.
It will be very interesting to see how this plays out, particularly...
Thanks Hugh, I really appreciate it mate.
:d - It’s been manageable so far, though fitting the deck beams and the deck might be a bit if a challenge ....
Dunno how I missed this one Slacko but nice buy mate!! She looks like a bucket load of fun at a good price.
And congratulations on the win, sweet!!
Apologies if this has already been posted but thought it worth sharing this Youtube channel for anyone interested in following it, I certainly will be. https://youtu.be/zVfWh2qAZF4

:d those screws were just holding the string line for the deck height and c/l which I took down just before taking the pic.
Yes, each cabin beam will be slightly different as they'll each vary...
I’m finally pretty happy with the camber of the cabin forward bulkhead, the camber is actually a little flatter here than it becomes as the cabin top moves aft:

Thanks Willin'
Thanks Trev’, cheers
Thankyou Steamboat, very much appreciated.
cheers, Greg
Thanks Steve. And likewise re the cover sheets, when they’re available - it seems they’ve been pretty popular lately and I’ve not been able to scrounge any for a while now.
Cold front came through last night Andrew, just enough to chill my ears.
And a couple of pics of the result for anyone who can’t be bothered watching the vid’:
the steam box set up - the cheapest ply that I could find (2 x 12mm sheets @38 each) joints sealed with the...
Steaming the cabin sides into place:
https://youtu.be/X1lwCY2bJhc
The profile of the bottom/deck edge of each cabin side was different but I spent a bit of time getting the top edge of each matched up and with a nice curve throughout that I’m happy with and which...
Thanks for the suggestion Andrew but they’re good, all will be revealed as I progress.
I wish I could share the smell of it as well, there’s nothing quite like it and it is probably the nicest smelling timber that I know of, seconded closely by our scented rosewood. I’m loath to throw...
Adequate options for sure.....if you don’t have a nice big bandsaw handy...;)

This was probably the second scariest cut of my lifetime - though I have absolutely no memory of the first one:

both very helpful and good for keeping their end up |:)

That was the easy bit - the time consuming bit was making those nice square corners and square cut curve that form the base fit snugly into the two cambers of the foredeck and side deck and the...
Finally starting to fit some wood to the deck to get a move on with my cabin structure. First on the list are the corner posts from that lovely slab of Huon Pine that I posted above:
I had just...
I had seen this one Mike, 'no more quick and simple than the one that my brother has done - they do the same thing but I haven’t done a comparison between the two calculators to see what the...
I’m sure that I want the type of curve that I’m using, I’m not sure what the correct name is for that curve Y:o. It’s the same curve that is calculated in the Jolie Brise model that Mike referenced...
It’ll save us having to truck in water for a change.......nice to be able to have long showers without thinking about what’s left in the tanks
It’s a nuisance isn’t it Gary. I’ve got a bunch of MDF for templates and all of it has gone ridiculously mouldy |:(
Thanks Slacko, agreed
I do Andrew, I might have a go at trying to overlay it with the drawing or with a profile of Bright Star, (if I have the software to do it...??)
I haven’t yet Mike, that’s kinda my thought behind adding a couple more templates to the picture but I was thinking instead of draping a thin sheet of MDF over them. I think your idea of a few...
