Sir David Amess MP for Southend West murdered in terrorist attack
There was considerable justified outrage on this forum 5 years ago when Jo Cox MP was murdered by a right wing extremist. Yet not a peep about this.

Could the difference be that Sir David was a Tory Brexiteer?
Discuss.

A well liked and respected, long-serving constituency MP. Probably selected as an easy target.

I read some of his bio yesterday, some of his issues I could support some I couldn’t, but he certainly was a big booster of his constituency, and seemed a thoroughly decent man.

^ I can't support his views on abortion and LGBT rights but they co-incided with those of his religion, maybe enough said about that.

No. The response seems the same. These are shocking events and people need time to respond.
In this case we seem to have a 25 year old murderer of Somali descent so the working assumption is that this killing has an Islamist motive.

The forum has changed in five years. It has become more shallow and polarized.

Great example.
The op strikes me as a very USA Republican political posture, but without the same context at all, so it’s quite bizarre.

We don't do martyrs. There is talk of a memorial, but that is as far as it will go.

Making Southend a city would be the "perfect tribute" to the memory of Sir David Amess, colleagues said.
Sir David, who represented the Southend West constituency, was stabbed as he held a regular Friday meeting with constituents in Leigh-on-Sea.
He had championed Southend's bid for city status as part of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.
"If there is any justice, then Southend will be successful," he said last month.
The civic honour will be
granted to a number of towns.

It's not just the forum, it's life in general. Division and hatred has been driven by the media (eg Fox News, the Wail and the Excess), social media ('nuff said) and politicians (eg Angela Rayner)for their own ends. Until respect for other's opinions and a resumption of common courtesies become the norm again the situation will get worse not better. The following is a good example:-

Hardly! As a 'wet' Tory (the left wing of the party) my beliefs are more in tune with the left wing of the Democrat party given how far to the right US politics have moved in recent years.
