The Wooden Boat Museum in Winterton. I haven't been yet but it is on my must-do list. I've met their master boatbuilder Jerome Canning; he is very...

Another style of boat designed for taking clients fishing on lakes is the Rangely boat, but its length of just over 16' might need to be stretched a...

I can only address #1; I'm not familiar enough with stability calculations to really explain anything. There could be two reasons you don't see...

That coble project sounds really interesting. I think I'll stay away from Rhino for the time being (not free) but the renderings that Clint Chase...

The pram looks nice, what do you not like about its performance? Does the transom bow kick up water? Does it twist and groan under sail? If it is...

After dabbling a bit with Carson hulls and the free version of Delftship I use Freehip Plus 3.4 exclusively. While it doesn't do everything that I...

Maybe ocean rowing boats are among the smallest ones? Even they seem to be mostly above 20' long and conform to the "rubber duckie" concept. Similar...

I agree that what you are proposing is pretty experimental and would benefit from a throwaway proof of concept. Totally worth a try though. My...

The V idea looks to be a good one to lock in the rocker, but the V will also want to flatten out putting stress on the midline seam. This midline...

About BOI
Biography:
After a building a skin on frame Baidarka 20 years ago I've recently rediscovered boat building. Every day driving home from work I marvel at the giant rock called "Weeball Island" at the entrance of the bay and said to myself that I need to get there someday without a motor. The replica of the Gokstad faering at the L'Anse aux Meadows Viking site started getting me interested in double ended rowboats, and I'm working on designing Viking-inspired, fast, light rowboats that are easy to build out of underlayment plywood. I hope the genes and experiences of my grandfather (an inventor) and my father (a designer and builder of inflatable boats) have rubbed off sufficiently to pull it off.
