I am about to commence building of the Cape Henry 21. Ordered materials, workshop setup.
My goal is to complete within 18 months and I hope to have the hull planked by Xmas..

The CH21 is a Dudley Dix design.

I didn't know Dix made such character boats.
Very attractive for sure.

By way of encouragement I thought I'd pass on what the venerable Arch Davis told this first time builder as my knees knocked and my hands trembled at starting to build my skiff. Candidly, I had quite a case of buyers remorse - you would have thought I'd have bought a million dollar yacht rather than plans for an eleven foot flattie!

Arch reassured me as he likely has others "Don't think of it as building a boat but rather a number of sub-assemblies. In the end the assemblies come together and there will sit your Sanddollar."

All I wanted to do was replank the bottom of a 19' Lightning, and one year later I just rebuilt the centerboard trunk. I'll start to plank soon though. I don't know how much time you can devote to your new infatuation, but I'll pass along the words of advice I got from the guy who gave me my boat--"however long you think it will take, plan on doubling it." Some folks on this sight do amazing things in an amazing amount of time and I envy them. If you're one of them, disregard my post. However, if you find things going a little slow, be patient, don't give up, and most of all enjoy the process. And don't be afraid to ask!
