Whats a good family row boat?

Were used to canoeing but have three kids and find the canoe a bit tender and also a bit challenging to keep moving.

I'm thinking rowing would be more efficient that way I could row and my wife could tend to other needs of the family or visa versa.

We live in North Idaho and like to boat small protected waters, calm rivers, and bays of the larger lakes.

I thinking a rangeley river boat woud be suited to our needs any opinions?

I'm interested in cedar strip building like newfound's version. Would other building techniques have advantages?
