Apperently, So. Cal is running out of old Chrylser Marine flat head 6 cyl. parts. I am "boat sitting" my ex-Stephens Brothers Sedan for the summer. Discovered a leak in the fuel pump. Is that serious? Bilge full of gas...I think so! I'm out of touch on engine part suppliers having been away from the powerboat for 7 years. Any guidance for this in California or beyond? I got part #'s . Thanks all! dp

Fuel pumps on these can probably be replaced with an inline pump. But yes, a gas leak is serious

Weren't most Chrysler inboards the same engines as in their cars?
Good auto parts store perhaps?

In general, automotive fuel pumps vent externally (to the pump) when they malfunction.
Can you say boom!
This is one item where it isn't worth taking a risk.

Did you try googling the part number?

Very true that caution must be used when dealing with gasoline. I live that with the atomic 4 in my boat. He said he had the part numbers....auto shops can get most anything that is still made for old engines if you know exactly what you need.

Thanks to all. I went to the WB classifieds. the fumes from a shotglass of gasoline equals a stick a dynamite. No power boat ride this weekend. We'll take my sailboat.

Try Duby Marine in North Tonawanda, NY. If he doesn't have it, he knows who will...
The pump I use is a dual diaphram type, with a return line to the tank from between them, and a glass fuel bowl indicator in the return line for showing any leakage of the main diaphram. Is this a normal set-up ?? Seems safe enough.

Check out the links for the antique speedboat sited ChrisCraft, Gar Wood, Hacker and such. The flathead Chrysler Marine engines were made long after anything like that was in cars. For the most part they were based on late 20s 27,8,9 Truck and industrial engines for production. The early experimental ones used Chrysler Imperial engines. Those were the only ones related to an actual car engine.
