Not much to report. The pieces are done, and I roughly mocked it up last weekend just to see her lines and get inspired again.

16' clamming skiff (15'8") by John Gardner. Salvaged antique Douglas fir lumber and plywood gussets, all epoxy glued.

By gum there's a boat in there! I love doug fir, even recycled.

Keep at it, Roger!

For a moment there I thought you already had the frames on the trailer :D Good to see some progress.

Thanks, guys.

This weekend, if the rain doesn't fall as severely as predicted, I'm going to try to notch the frames for the chines, and get her properly set up on the form.

Depending on what kind of winter we have, I hope she'll be in the water by spring.

Best,
R

Nice! But Roger, is that a frame and panel transom? ;)

-THmm...I guess I don't quite know what that means. :( But it's not exactly the transom design Gardner specified, yes. It's more what I feel comfortable with.

Oops. Sorry. Frame and panel construction is a technique used in furniture making. A wide piece such as the sides of a cabinet would expand and contract too much if made from a single slab of wood, so a frame is made up of narrow stock and a larger panel is set into a groove running around the inside of the frame, and the slab is free to expand and contract as needed. Neither air nor water tight, so I was being a smart-a$$.

Kinda like this headboard:

Okay, that I know, just didn't know it in boats. smile.gif

No, the tramson was laid out of three separate planks, then the frame laid over them and all epoxied together and screws installed.
