I'd like to have a new bobstay made up. Any recommendations for a shop that does good work at a reasonable price and will take on a small job like this? Portland to Rockland. Thanks Jim

Nat Wilson in East Boothbay? He at least would know who and where in that area could do it.

I could check with the rigging guys down at Portland Yacht Services. I'll see them tomorrow.

I've somehow gotten the idea that he only does rigging work as a part of outfitting entire boats, sails and all.... But I'll sure give him a call.

Steven If you don't mind, that'd be great. I'll send you the specs and maybe they could even quote. Thanks

StevenIt's 112 1/2", eyes at both ends, 7x19 stainless. I'd bring them the old one to work from. Thanks, Jim

Maybe just give them a ring, Jim. 207-774-1067 Ask for the rigging shop.
I was there this morning but might not be back there until late tomorrow or early Wednesday.

What size wire and have you considered Sta-Loks?

StevenI'll give them a call in the morning Steven, thanks. Also thanks Michelle for the lead and the link, but I'd like to put the money into the Maine economy. Chuck, I have considered swageless fittings. I like their cleanness but I'd like to keep this basic (read less expensive) if possible. I've gotten good service out of the swaged eyes on the present rig; but the stay is little too long - its turnbuckle is almost closed and I really should be able to put a little more tension on the bobstay. But I'll talk options with Steven's rigging shop tomorrow and see what they recommend.

Chain and turnbuckle maybe?

Chain and turnbuckle maybe? I really like the shippy look of chain; and I know you know many sloops, especially larger ones, do carry it, but I'm concerned - perhaps unnecessarily - about minimizing weight forward on this smaller boat. With 1/2" grade 40 chain I'd be looking about about a 20# net gain way out in front. Maybe my time in ultralight aircraft has gotten me over-sensitized to weight and balance.. : ) Your thoughts?

Good idea!
In my case, having gained twenty pounds "aft" it would probably improve my boats trim if I stored some chain up forward. :D
