Recently used some Bison D4 polyurethane glue .... never seen it before, and Bison doesn't( I contacted them) sell in Portugal. It's a waterproof foaming gap filler, like, I think, the expanding foam sprays that are available and I have used here, but it came in a 100ml bottle, and really worked well as wood glue, so far anyway.

It can't just be made by Bison, (???) anyone know alternatives/brands/trade names available in Europe, or more relevant, Portugal or Spain ???

Don't know about availability in Europe, but just about all the major glue manufacturers do make a poly- glue: Gorilla, Elmer's, etc.

I don't care for the super-foamy polyurethane glues, but the ones that barely foam are **great** --- PL Premium for example. I use it to re-glue most things that I previously glued with Gorilla Glue that subsequently broke.

Has Balcotan made it to Portugal? In England there are a number of polyurethane adhesives which conform to D4 and curiously, most of them seem to come in the same size and shape plastic bottle.Even though the labels vary,I suspect most of them come from the same factory and have labels added later.

balcotan, expanding glue, its alright for deck plugs, i cant vouch for its other claims, i worked with nielsens rigging the grand turk, he swore by it, but since then it has been shown to be not so good

A company called TREMCO makes a Polyurethane Sealant known as VULKEM 116

Vulkem 116 is more of a sealant than a glue. I've used it quite a bit on my dory skiff where I need a flexible, sealed joint. But it doesn't compare to the gluing power of epoxy or PL Premium.

I find myself using PL Premium for most small, quick glue jobs on my boats -- much easier than the hassle of mixing up epoxy and waiting days for it to fully cure. Still use epoxy for critical jobs like edge-gluing white oak or mast sections.

Just yesterday I removed a small white oak cleat from my DF mast that had been glued on with PL Premium. Despite all my care and use of a wide-blade chisel, it pulled off a 1/4" deep chunk of DF which I then patched with PL Premium and a thin strip of DF. It was ready for sanding and varnishing this morning.

When I've removed Vulkem 116 it pulls off without taking the wood with it -- can be cut with a knife or hot wire. Both great products and highly recommended for boatbuilding, just for different uses.

Here I've removed the cap for my centerboard case to repair a broken (cheap ply!) centerboard. You can see the white Vulkem 116 sealant used to bed/seal the cap to the case, which pulled apart with some help from the knives and prybars.
