Saw this beauty (After Eight) in False Creek on Sunday last:
Regretably I was busy loading Carina on the ramp and didn't get my own picture.

Yup, beauty. Clean lines, balanced profile, not a great deal of overly-busy gimcrackery on the arch and sun lounge roof; a lovely example of a modest-sized superyacht. Canadian owned, too!

Tupperware! Love to have it though. I'd sell it and build a bunch of real boats.

Guess who made the teak caprails for that thing? :o

Well, a man's got to find some way to pay for his own boat obsession, however much smaller and more lapstrakey may it be. . . . . .

I think Island Eagle was a couple of slips over from her in a marina in Vancouver last summer for one night. I don't mind big boats, but I must say the faux streamlining strikes me as kind of silly. Guess I just like a more workboaty look.

I saw that boat in the San Juans or Gulf Islands last summer...it is better looking than many mega-yachts...but still not to my taste.

Certainly is Spieden Island...Did you ever hear the story about Spieden?....A group of "sportsmen" stocked the island with exotic game...they would hunt them on vacation retreats. There were a few of these manly man events 'til some of the wives showed up and found that there were other vareties of "wildlife" also available on the island.

In the seventies, the owners of Spieden changed the name to Safari Island. I remember that one of the exotic animals, probably an Asian deer, swam to San Juan Island, where it was promptly shot by a local, for free.

I am looking in my files for some photos of the resident fauna, mostly wild goats, that survived the intrepid hunters of Safari Island. It's hard to overestimate the hardships they endured while shooting the sheep, goats and deer trapped on the island. It was certainly adventure of the highest order, and has richly contributed to the great history of our fair state. Lemme see if I can find those pics tonight.

I think I heard the island was stocked with these rabid and dangerous beasts by an airline (AA?) for the edification of their best suppliers and clients. Can't confirm that.

Did any of the hookers, to which I alluded above, attempt to swim to San Juan I. as well?

Those kinky gun club members!!
