Just got back from our Memorial Day Parade.
Local ANG, some vets, Star Spangled Banner, some short speeches, then the highschool band, dogs of Wickford, truck dragster on a flat bed, boy scouts, girl scouts, brownies, HS glee club.
Lots of trailers pulled by cars, trucks, tractors, etc.
Very American.

And, as counterpoint, Woods Hole celebrated May Saturday morning with a parade of bongo, noisemaker and drum pick-up band, lots of kids on bicycles in left-over hallow'een costumes, banners for the local day-care center and library, and various dogs decorated with antlers and bandanas.

This was followed by a day of play at the local ball field featuring strawberry shortcake and lobster rolls with fresh squoze lemonade on the side, as well as face painting, pony rides, a pie-eating contest, a small circus act, a big May pole and a Jacob's ladder to try to climb.

About 300 people came out during the day to schmooze and welcome the warm weather before the village is descended upon by the hoards of people looking to find free parking while visiting the Vineyard for a couple weeks.
