View Full Version : Removing Bronze Stain from Mahogany

The mast project on GB50-52 is coming along well. I have stripped all the paint, chopped down and reshaped the spreaders, and fitted dutchmans in a couple of spots. The original mast wood, mahogany, has been darkened in a couple of spots over the years by the original bronze hardware. As I am hoping to clear coat the project (with the five-year-clear system), I am wondering if I anyone has a suggestion as to how this stain might be removed before final finishing, without compromising the adhesion of the Smith System.

Hmmm. I usually use oxalic acid to take metal stains out of wood. Haven't had to remove bronze stains, but I wonder if it would work.
