A favorite of mine from one of my favorite designers - Rhodes' Skal is available for a whopping (and crazy in my view - but I didn't pay to restore her) EUR 450,000 or US$ 611,505. A true classic - http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1930/Philip-Rhodes-Gaff-Cutter-2036250/N-France/France

She used to live here in Falmouth for many years owned by an ex Naval Commander.A few years ago having had much work with a new owner, she sank in the Raz de Sein, Western Brittany. When the engine failed in flat calm, the fierce tides of the area put her on the rocks. It is possible she is being sold to recoup recovery costs etc.

Jeremy Burnett, thanks for that information. It would be a very unhappy story without he final chapter including the restoration.

I remember seeing her on the page below looking quite forlorn. There are also a couple of photos of her restoration in progress at the site (a great site for Rhodes fans).

It may well be they have much or all of that figure in her purchase, salvage, and restoration. I've not sourced that sort of work or had the figures done for a new build. The numbers might be quite reasonable based on comparisons.

I started a thread in "Designs and Plans" some time ago on the range of prices for classics and it varied quite widely. Granted, without having a quality survey on each boat, it's hard to do an apples-to-apples comparison, and even with that you have the issue of a particular boat’s provenance and historical significance.

The article below is linked from the Philip Rhodes site I referenced above, which also has a short biography of Rhodes. I can also enthusiastically recommend Henderson's book "Philip H. Rhodes and His Yacht Designs"
