Need to glue new (purpleheart) bolsters onto old Sitka Spruce mast. The old bolsters (cracked) were white oak glued and screwed to the mast. I'll also use screws as the old ones were done, but instead of automatically using West System epoxy for the glue, I'm considering using PL Premium. I've used PL Premium successfully for other things but not for anything on a mast.

Which would you use?

You left out the benefits you expect to achieve by doing this.

Benefit was potentially stronger in higher temperatures (recall, West System Epoxy does start weakening at temperatures as low as 120F) that will be seen by the surface of the mast in brilliant sunshine.

Bottom line--don't want a glue joint that will fail. Of course, whatever was used 78 years ago on the oak / spruce interface didn't fail, we had to carefully remove the old blocks and it did splinter a little block and mast material in removal. So--whatever was there surely worked, too. Just don't know what it was.

Unless someone comes along with a good PL Premium on a mast experience, I'll likely glue up with the West System Epoxy.

Thanks :)
