Arrgghh!! I had all of the signs of over heating on a short trip this afternoon. After re-installing my heat exchanger yesterday, I ran the boat for a while looking for leaks which there were none. I also ran it for twenty minutes and no overheating. Today, I motored from Stimson Marina near the locks out toward Lake Union and made it to the cement plant before I started to notice my overflow tank overflowing. Temperature gauge showed temperature was fine. I turned around near Morrison's and headed back to my slip. By the time I made it back to the Ballard Bridge, coolant was spurting out of the overflow tank. Temperature gauge still showed < 190F.

So, heat exchanger was just cleaned and pressure checked. New hoses were installed and were installed correctly (I made a diagram and labeled hoses before I took things apart). I can verify that there is good flow of raw water through the heat exchanger. I'm confident that there is good flow of fresh water through the block and heat exchanger, although I cannot verify. Things should be cooling MUCH better than they were before. This is VERY CLEARLY much worse..

Any ideas before I call in the mechanic?

Thanks!!

When you replace the thermostat ,push the spring lid down and insert an asprin,as it warms up it will bleed the air out and the asprin will dissolve...no air lock

i fight with it for an hour ,make a big mess, then,an extra gallon of antifreeze later the air will work out. i'll remember asprin trick.
