I know this isn't much of an update on Floozie's progress but I have to let off steam somewere.I'm still in shock . 70 bucks for 2 stupid little plastic lenses for the port & starbord nav lights.

Now don't get me wrong I know nothing comes cheap when it comes to building a boat but 70 bucks WOW. At least I am pleased with the way the lights turned out. smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif ......Phil

You could have bought a small sheet of plexi glass and heat bend the radius into it for 25 cents or even for free as scrap from larger sheets. Even still ask a machinist or plastic supplier real nicely and theyll let you have a piece of acrylic rod you could've bored out (and make all those fancy beads on the profile) and cut in half for both lights covers on an engine lathe!!

Worse than that $70 bucks, you're going to hate the fact that the mounting boards are supposed to be painted black...

I have managed to get some good prices on Ebay. Even somediscontinued cleats that match mine. Search Deck/cabintop hardware. Yours do look really good.

Margo's technically right about the black sideboards, but... I used to sail a Coast Guard inspected, passenger carrying schooner that for YEARS has had lovely, varnished sideboards. The inspector always peeked around the front to make sure they worked, checked 'em off on his clipboard, and never said another word.

I think "tradition" sometimes gets a little "leeway" on these matters. I sailed MELINDA for her first four months or so without my registration numbers on the bow. (Took that long to find nice bronze numbers.) I always kept the registration form and sticker in my chart bag along with a likely sounding "excuse" for the missing numbers, but never needed it. Hell, I STILL haven't had the heart to actually put that ugly Washington State sticker on there. It'll stay in the chart bag 'till somebody calls me on it.

(I did have a "scare" one day going thru the Montlake Cut. A police boat went out of it's way to pass close by as we passed. But he just wanted to say "Nice Boat!" and ask how old she was... ;) )

So... As for your lightboards, they look great! I wouldn't change a thing until and unless some unlikely "official" calls you on it. I doubt they'll try to give you a hard time once they find out you built her yourself! The high price? You'll be surprised how quickly you no longer remember how much they cost. Building boats is like that. There are some things you can make or scrounge for next to nothing that normaly cost a mint. There are some seemingly simple bits that wind up putting a real dent in your wallet. It evens out in the end, and will the LAST thing on your mind as you contemplate her tied up in her slip for the first time! ;)

Videoguy!
I'm new to all of these forums! How in heck do I transport pictures to a message? You obviously have the know how!

Very nice Phil!! Glass would have been way more.

Uncas - you gotta have your pictures online in some photo website. When done, you right click on the image (full size) and scroll down to "properties", then go to bottom and highlite the complete url address, and copy the full code, but don't copy anything after ".jpg". Then come onto the WB forum, open a reply, and click the image icon below, and ctrl "V" (paste) the code into the box, hit ok and preview.
