Does anyone know how to go about replacing broken or weakened ribs on a small wooden boat? I'm trying to replace some ribs on a pre-WWII rowing shell, but think it's likely the same as doing it on a guideboat or similar small craft (though likely more complex than replacing a canoe rib)Thanks!

Steam-bent or sawn out? Riveted, clench nailed or screwed? Carvel? lapstrake? batten seam? canvas-covered canoe style? We need some more details and or pictures, amigo.

A rowing shell will have very light sawn ribs, a minimum of fastenings. Cant remember how they were fixed at the keel though.
Can you post links to pictures please?

That's right. Sawn not steamed. Lightly fastened with copper tacks/nails I think. I'll add some pictures as there are some complications like notching to accommodate seat slide structure. The ribs I'm looking at are the ones that double as structure to support the rowing outriggers, so they bear some additional latitudinal stress...Thanks
