View Full Version : sheer clamp/stem joint

Am getting ready to laminate up the sheer clamps for my Smaalders North Sea 29. The clamps are 1.75 thick by 3.5 inches wide. I plan on using 3 laminations to get the 1.75 thickness.
.Should I notch the inner stem so the full 1.75 thickness terminates at the forward face of the inner stem, or should I only run 1 or 2 of the laminations to the face of the inner stem and terminate the other(s) at the aft face of the inner stem. I think that the sheer clamps would probably touch as the stem is 3 inces wide. Thanks

Can you post a sketch of your alternatives please? Also how is the breasthook to be worked?
