I am planning to build a Penobscot 14 this winter and I am wondering if there is anyone out there in the Puget Sound region that is working on one. I would surely like to have a look at it if we could arrange something.

Bob:
I didn't have anyone around me building a Sanddollar last winter when I built DAWN MARIE and it still floated. ;) The "14" is a bit more work but the end product is immensely more striking than my skiff.
Tell you what, this forum is a lifesaver. Go to the search function and see what you find under Penobscot 14 - there is likely plenty. Remember, (Arch told me this when I wondered what I had gotten myself into) you aren't building a boat; just a number of assemblies that in the end come together as one large assembly commonly referred to as a "boat"!

I know I can do it based on other experinces. I built and fired up a brass/bronze casting outfit with no input but books. You should have seen us. A 20 lb crucible of melted brass on the end of a shank and the question pops into mind "What the H... do I do now?" The experince was good and we do casting as a matter of course now.
It is just that other points of are valueable if not required.
I am looking forward to this. The Penobscot 14 is a learning project on the way to something larger. Dix's Cape Henry 21 is the current choice.

With Arch's boats you get the blue prints, building manual, building video and the bonus is that you can just ring up 'ol Arch if something dosn't make sense. Candidly, I cringed whenever I just had to call him because he is such a nice fellow and here I was bothering him again. You would never know from his tone of voice that he tired of hearing from me though. A very patient and classy guy.
Be patient and enjoy the process. It was anti-climatic when I was finished. (That bodes well for another boat! smile.gif )

Just finished a shellback dingy,it was my first attempt and went very well, lots of good info online and on this forum, hardest part was taking the plunge and actually starting.(and finding the money)
Good Luck

Steilicom is definatly in the range of coming to look at your project. Nothing critical, I'm just looking for perspective and what other people have done.
I'll send you an email and set it up.
Thanks

Bob,
Although I'm a little ways from you I'm building a Penobscot 14 myself. Just about ready to turn the hull right side up and start the interior. Haven't got the video, but Davis' plans and instruction manual are great, just take your time. E-mail me off list and I'll try and send you some photos.
