View Full Version : Even latex acrylic house paints?

From the current CPES discussion, but a different subject. What removes these water born acrylic paints besides paint remover (and only some of them)? Can you usually do it with heat? I tried a heat gun on a test patch on our house (going to repaint in July anyway) and all it did was scorch the cedar siding. These coating seem to be big in the UK, but I am worried about refinishing the next time.

Purely by accident, I discovered that a strong solution of TSP and warm water will virtually dissolve latex paint. I don't know if the same will work with the newer water-based acrylics. But TSP is cheap and easy to come by, so it's probably worth a try.

My philosophy is to just let them wear thin and thin repaint on the solid, well-bonded base.
