“Dirty Water” by the novelist Mary-Ann Tirone Smith and her son Jere Smith is well subtitled “A Red Sox Mystery.” (Hall of Fame Press, Kingston, RI, 2008.) Jere is a major league Sox blogger and the real 2007 team and a blogger costar with BPD’s Hindu detective Rocky Patel in the mystery of an abandoned baby in the locker room and a corpse in the Fens.

Smith & Smith are third and forth generation Sox fans who dedicate the book to four fifth generation Sox fans. And special thanks to their battalion of lawyers who finessed permissions to use so many real characters as scenery decorating a first class story.

I don’t give away the McGuffin too much to hint at the Pestano Pipeline or that the baby at first named Teddy celebrates the little known fact that Ted Williams was part Latino.

Sox fans will enjoy this for obvious reasons. Barbarians should read to find out what they are missing.

The Charles is now clean enough to reintroduce oysters (for additional water filtering) but I hope those ones won't show up at the Union Oyster House! :D

But the dirty river draining through the Fens has catfish that taste horrid.
