Yes, sorry. Flying Cloud (how appropriate!), a modified log canoe.

a bunch of us hired one of these [America I think] some years ago. What fun charging down a 50' wide channel at 8 knots and wondering how to get all the sail off her quick like,

Interesting to note with the historic 18' skiffs that they carried up to 3,500 square feet of sail - on a hull only 18' long - just under 200 square feet of sail per foot of hull length. The boom length, at 32' was almost double the hull length.

Sandbaggers sometimes had a sparred length three times their length on deck. Take a look at Bull & Bear:

JD, another log canoe.
IIRC the guy out on the boomkin handles the mizzen sheet.

You'd probably need a guy in back to handle the rigging on these, too.

Lots of people , purchase, and timing. You can read accounts of them taking 1/2 an hour to get the main in after a gybe.. things like that.
We could set about 1150-1200 ft to windward on Waione with about 750 behind the mast. We could carry it to about 15 knots and lug it through to perhaps 20 knot gusts ,but it got a bit hairy after that.

Lots, my wife cried when she saw her sitting in the workshop.
Still.. onward and upward as they say.
Riada is also a character boat and she's got lots of room, and lots of sail to play with ( thread relevance)

I was around at my Mothers the other day Margo, and she had the Classic boat magazine on the coffee table from 2001 or so with us ( Waione) on the cover. Inside was a full write up on the Concordia ya'lls!

Riada is pretty close to being my perfect boat (I'd mess with the companionway, amongst other things) She's a great size, roomy yet one person can furl the sails, the rudder is in the right place, great material. Enjoy her.

Yeah I don't know what ( if anything) to do about that, cutting the bridgedeck would let me have a spray dodger but lose me some of the nav station. No rush, I don't feel inclined to mess with it yet.
We had a nice sail sunday.. about 20 miles with wind from 8 through perhaps 15. The gennaker on this thing looks big to me but I don't know how to calculate it.. must be 1000... 1100 ft I suppose.
anyway it was big enough and shy enough at times to put the rail down and have us sitting between mid 7's and 8.8 at times. Middle 16 miles was 2 hrs dead so quick trip for us.
Just Kirsty and I and 1 kid for a change!

Of topic a bit....
For open ocean passages I really like the bridge deck feature. Maybe not so much for alongshore cruising.
This design is one of my favorite dream boats for offshore, an S&S 42' yawl (Francis Kinney design):
Moderate size, two level cockpit, strong deck structure, on board stowage aft for a hard dinghy over a big lazarette, aft cabin that communicates with the cockpit, pilot berth amidships and a work bench forward. The trim tab for self steering assist didn't work out well in practice.

Yes, but that must have been extremely dangerous. It wouldn't have taken much of a squall to compromise the ship.

Sailboat racing has never exactly been about safety. Even less so in 1916.

I didn't realize it was a race, I should have known better.;)
I cant wait to see the new schooner Atlantic under sail. They launched her like a year ago. I wonder what the hold up is.

I'd be interested in hearing more about that shot if you find your notes. We have that print hanging up at the house. When I first met SWIMPAL she brought it home from a sale with a couple other nice sailing prints (Rosenfelds I think) ... I knew it was a good sign :)
