Hi all,
has anyone got any experience with CNC cut building jigs? Considering using one on 43 foot cat build.
TIA

Yes. What do you want to know?

Interesting topic! Please tell us more about CNC applications. Can you farm it out to a place to have done? What does it cost? Inquiring minds want to know.

Your attitude is much improved since the lobotomy, Mr. Cleek.
Edit: this was a tongue-in-cheek response to what looked like a facetious post. I think CNC routering is a dandy way to get done quicker, if that is your primary objective.

Bill Childs' Bartender boat kits are cut with CNC machinery. I've been to his shop and seen in person. Pretty slick system. You can see pics and detail at: . Of course you come up to Bellingham. Bartender Boats (http://bartenderboats.com/19-foot-kits.html)

Can CNC equipment be programed to cut rolling bevels?

I had the hull and deck molds cut for the current project. I got the CAD (Prolines) files for the hull and deck from the designer and had someone do the AutoCAD work to dice up the body plan into drawings of pieces of station molds. The mold parts were cut on a Shopbot. The design has lots of concave areas, so trimming them precisely would have been very tedious work.
If you're starting from a CAD design, machine cutting station molds is a very good way to do it.
The Shopbot is a CNC cutting machine which costs, maybe $10K these days. It is basically a computer controlled plunge router with a range of motion slightly bigger than a 4x8 sheet of plyood. It can vary the depth of the router bit but not its angle, so bevels of a sort can be cut by milling a staircase. I think that CLC does step scarphs and other edge treatments this way
