I wonder if he can count that flight as his cross country solo.

                    Re: Stolen plane to U.S.

The Missouri state trooper who made the arrest said the pilot told him he had hoped to be shot down.

"He made a statement that he was trying to commit suicide and he didn't have the courage to do it himself," Justin Watson told ABC television.
"And his idea was to fly the aircraft into the United States, where he would be shot down."

Adam Dylan Leon was taken into custody after a plane was stolen from a Thunder Bay, Ont., college and landed near a Missouri highway.

Five and half hours into his fiasco and crossing the Illinois/Missouri state line (when the fighters probably had to break off to refuel) it finally dawned on this guy that he wasn't going to get shot down.
"Ok then, let's land, take a pee, get a soda, some jerky and, ya know, just see what happens."

Before Bush, the Air Force had never been sent up to check out a plane.

in very specific places yes like new mexico military reservations. not some random Cessna joyriding across the sky.

IIRC the dewline stations would have to request air traffic to go around. the Fairbanks air base used to take anything with wings and it was not thought odd to see float planes buzzing buildings in anchorage for pictures. what do think the response would be now?

I dont recall ever hearing about an air force response to a wayward prop job. however there are alot of fliers and exflyers on the board the might be able to shed s bit of light on the subject.

fool i am then. cause i still think of freedom as being many things and not just those in the constitution.
fool i was to believe in a country enough to put life on line to protect those freedoms for folks like you.
