View Full Version : It floats!
Cathy takes our new kayak I've been working on for way too long for a maiden spin.

Be-utiful boat!
PFD? I'm going to make one of those next. Actually next I'm going to draw a stretched version, not so beamy, with hatches. This one is only a little over 15' and very beamy, about 26". I'm thinking a 17er, about 24 inches across and storage for the camping gear would be a good his/hers combo.

That is one beautiful boat Jim; you did a good job on it!
It looks a bit like one of John Lockwood's Greenland hard-chine designs. Whose design is it ?
Last year I built a Tursiops but found it a little big all around, except the length. So since I had all the station molds from it I lofted a new boat and recut the molds for a narrower, closer to the water hull with a bit more sheer as well. The Tursiops has a flat bottom panel about six inches wide at the widest point. I kept left the bottom the same but changed just about everything else including the deck. So its sort of my design, but takes its starting point from Tursiops.
Here the bottom panel is is the middle with the side panels in order on either side. It also has a stem to stern backbone made from a 16 foot length of 3/4" x 3/4" douglas fir.

You can see the backbone notched into the moulds. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid166/p09b8e0ec6f46a7059bf2c34ca93cd56f/f45ac2e7.jpg
