Dave is using a slightly stretched version of dinkydink as a nesting tender for his Bartender. He further decided to go plyplank on frame instead of S&G but he is doing a fantastic job with the conversion. First he made a model from the panel offsets I gave him then constructed a frame from the lofting off of the model. Currently he has the hull built and cut and is working on the details now. Here is a link to the build: http://www.pbase.com/bartenderdave/tender

Putting in a lot of work for a pram dinghy. It does look good though.

The pram is intended for use with my Bartender, all right, but the design has no association with Bartender Boats. All of the errors and omissions are mine. [grin] In nested form it will fit just aft of the engine box, leaned forward while running to minimize windage. Upright, the nested parts will be clear of the engine box when it is tilted back, for changing tanks, checking the stuffing box, etc.

It has been more work than I expected; I built it off frames in lieu of stitch and glue because I had never lofted before, and I wanted that experience. I'm glad I did that -- the lofted lines were very useful in correcting errors I made. Using spruce for the frames and other hull structure parts also placed demands I had not anticipated. Spruce is a bit tricky to work with, but tough and light, properly used. Right now, it comes in at 65 lbs. I expect it will hit 70 before I am done.

Anyone reading between the lines in the photo album will figure those out.

BTW, I've been calling the design Dinky Dink Large, because Steve blew up the panels from his Dinky Dink a bit to bring the displacement a bit higher -- so we can safely row two in it. Many thanks to Steve for his kind assistance.

Should be wet in about a month.

I knew you were a member of one (or more) of the forums I haunt but I couldn't remember your sign in name.

Dinky Dink Large got wet today as part of working out locations for the oarlocks and how the thwarts should be set up. These photos show approximate trim and oarlock positioning for solo and for tandem use.

Work your way forward and back within this link to see how I got to the current point. http://www.pbase.com/bartenderdave/tender

Been a fun project, interrupted by a 6-month hiatus in California on family business. It is really good to be back in Oregon, and building again.

Lot of stuff since last post. Start here for finishing work since the initial sea trial: http://www.pbase.com/bartenderdave/image/122389807

Nests to form a 52 inch long package. Will fit behind the engine box, and lash down forward while under way. Gonna try that out in a couple of days. Becky says it will be Little Blue Duck. Maybe.

Whoa!...didn't catch the last post in Feb...awesome! Looks great...excellent work. How much weight did you have in sand bags and what do you estimate the total was for the full up weight.

100 lbs of sand. 230 lbs of me and about 15 lbs of oars. Have not weighed the dinghy alone yet. I think it is about 50-60 lbs.

So about 405lbs or so...not too bad. And yes...balance in a small boat like this is tricky...especially getting in or out of it. The Vee bottom adds a small amount of instability but eases the motion too...they kind of go hand in hand.

Steve,

Regarding how it rows: I scaled the fin/skeg up from the original plans you sent me, and am glad I did. It really tracks well. I think it is about 7 inches deep, aft, and tapers to zero about 8 inches aft of the separation.

Link above is to new photos illustrating nesting aboard the Bartender, and use of the dinghy. Becky thinks it should be Little Blue Duck.

Last image shows the mother ship, with boot stripe, a recent addition. Bartender Bill is happy now.
