The Silva Bay Shipyard School (http://www.boatschool.com) is gearing up for a pretty awesome launch festival this year.

http://www.boatschool.com/blog/images/Happypete-S.jpg

The dates this year land on the weekend of April 4th-5th. The school is launching a Gartside skiff, a wherry and a Herreshoff pram - there will be others hitting the water as well no doubt...

On top of some beautiful traditional small craft there will be a very exciting speaker series happening throughout the weekend. The website is here: http://boatschool.com/festival/

I have listed the speakers and topics below. Top notch material!

Hey Alex, or anyone else who might know, is there a shuttle service between ferry terminals in Nanaimo and from the terminal on Gabriola to Silva Bay? I’ll be down in Vancouver next week and would like to come over, but would prefer to do a walk on rather that take the car just for the day (Saturday).

Much thanks,
Don

Don,

You can walk from the Departure Bay terminal to the Gabriola Ferry. It's approximately 2 miles south along the waterfront, there are watering holes along the way. From Duke Point there is a shuttle, BC Ferries should know about that. Ferries to Gabriola are every hour during the day and into the evening. There is a island taxi but it's expensive, best to ask on the ferry for a ride to Silva Bay. Also you can fly (beaver on floats, Tofino Air) direct from Vancouver International to Silva Bay, sked flights three times a day, but they may be all booked up.

If you're stuck just call me.

Thanks Tad,

I’ll check the ferry schedules and see how that will work out. I’m also going to see if I can organize a few friends to tag along and share the costs of taking a car over. I’m really looking forward to getting over for the day if I can. See you there.

Cheers,
Don

You're going Don? Well then, I may just have to wonder down... It would be nice to catch up over a few pints at the nice little pub there.
