Ok, I've finally been able to make some progress. Between getting our house ready to put on the market and various trips to see family, there have been some delays.
I've gotten a bit crazy, and decided to do an inlay on the bottom of the kayak (I have 3 planned for the deck, as well). It is made of Macassar Ebony, Sapele, Cedar of Lebanon, and Cherry. It's a bit rough, as I haven't sanded the inlay yet, and I have a minor repair to do.

The bottom? You do that kind of beautiful work on the bottom? You have way too much free time!!!

beautiful. You're gonna need counseling after that first rocky landing, though. :D
I've gotten a bit crazy ""'But I don’t want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
'Oh, you can’t help that,' said the Cat. 'We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.'
'How do you know I’m mad?' said Alice.
'You must be,” said the Cat. 'or you wouldn’t have come here.'""

Thanks for your kind words, gentlemen. And George, :D . But if I don't get out on the water soon, I'll need even more therapy!

Garrett... WOW! George is right... I'd be afraid to take her out.
How long did it take you to become proficient at that (please say many years;) )?

Matt, this happens to be my first inlay ever. So of course I have to do it the hardest way -- on a compound-curved surface. But it doesn't look as good up close, in all honesty. The reason I did it on the bottom was so that if it turned out horribly, well, it's only the bottom! When I do the deck inlays, I think I'll glue the pieces in one at a time, instead of assembling the whole inlay first, and doing it all at once. I'm still mulling it over.

At least the fish will get to enjoy it.
