can you tell me what the hull is made of exactly on the old boats?
pre fiberglass, right?
also... if I have a real beauty penn yann, where to sell it?

what's with the little 'icons' listed here?? I assumed that mostly adults use this forum.

thanks folks.

The hull is made primarily of lumber pieces and canvas. The Penn Yan enthusiasts will be along shortly to correct me, and flesh out my description a bit.

If you want to sell, you can take out an ad in Woodenboat Magazine for the largest coverage to an appropriately targeted audience. Or, list it with a local broker who has an internet presence/affiliation. Or - if you live somewhere with a large boating community - Craigslist. Or you can list it at the Penn Yan website:

As for the accusation that we are mostly adults here, I'm sure there are many who'd disagree. I can only add:

"You're only young once, but you can be immature forever'

thanks David.
the exterior of the boat is so hard and smooth. I guess maybe it's just enough good paint over the canvas.
Well, let's hear the penn yann people correct you now.

Hardly an expert, I love those Penn Yann's and have been a WBF student of Mr. Santi's in the past.

Old Charlie Santi was the Penn Yann Expert, yes sir.
Haven't seen him in awhile but he's still forever in the search function.

There is some good information in this article about what type of construction was used in what year it was made.

I don't understand the question about the icons.

These are pretty cool. Heavily framed, though.

Also, Wooden Boat magazine #203 has a very good article on the history of Penn Yan. They specifically mention your cartopper, and give breakdowns of the various construction methods they used over the years.
